I am installing my GPS and I have a question. The energy source cable that goes to the battery, do you just wired the cable directly to the battery?
If so, how do you manage to put the cable away when you don't have the GPS on the bike?

I wired mine directly off the battery. I added in an in-line fuse to help protect it.
I ran the cable under the tank and clipped it into the holders for the throttle cables. The cable sticks out just a touch near the neck, but I can tuck it back in under the tank when I don't have my GPS with me (which is rarely).
What model did you get?

That's the model I'm running. Depending on how long ago you got it, I would suggest updating to the latest (MapSource) software. I finally did mine over the winter and its amazing how on top of the road changes they are. Well worth the $75.

Nate: I got it on the bike. Thanks. I did the same thing you did. It works fine.
Now on the lates Mapsource, I have no clue. My son bought this stuff for me and he also bought 4 gygs of RAM and loaded all the maps of the US, Canada and Puerto Rico (I have no clue why Puerto Rico  ). Is that what you have?

Make sure you keep the plastic plug cover for your 2610 if you hard wire it (with a fuse of course). That way you won't accidentally blow a fuse when you remove the power plug from the back of the 2610 and it inadvertently touches a ground. Don't ask me how I know.

After hardwiring, and on the "front" end, my Garmin StreetPilot III plugs into a weather cap/receptacle that is sold as part of the hardwire kit I purchased by Cycoactive -- http://www.cycoactive.com/gps/powint.htm -- it was about $30. Your Garmin's connector might be different but you can find others sold with this same concept.
From the website -- 12V hardwire kit. Note the weather cap/receptacle on the far right

My bike/setup: After unplugging the GPS, insert plug in cap

My bike/setup: The plug, seated; the electronics safe from the elements and out of the way, ready for the GPS

I have a 2GB Compact Flash card in it. Has about 2/3rds of the country on it.
The latest MapSource DVD is v.7, Mine came with 6.x. Update the mapping software on your PC, generate the maps and resend the entire thing to the device. You will need the unlock codes that came with the device. If you got it recently, you may be entitled to a free upgrade(I was just outside that window).

I have a cheap garmin eTrex legend with no extra maps. I bought my wife a garmin i3. I love the maps and the 6000000 POIs. I wish they made a MC mount for that one.

I have been looking at the garmin gps 2610 and the tom tom rider
I like the idear of the bluetooth connection. How do you hear the voice on the 2610? Can you have a wired ear pc with it? Does any one know about the Garmin nuvi 310 with bluetooth? The best thing I like about the 2610 is it the cheapest of all. Is it easy to use? Can you see it in sunlight?
Thanks All

I don't use the speaker part on my bike, I do in the car though.
When I am riding with it, I just glance down at it periodically, and the visual cues (turns, stay straight, etc.) are enough for me.
I think EddieCohen has his speaker enabled, I just didn't want to run a socket for it.
I bought the visor for the 2610, but I don't really need it. Very rarely is it in direct sunlight so I don't have glare.
Can't speak to the Tom-Tom or any others that have bluetooth, but I don't wear a full face or use earbud (music, etc.) when I ride.

Mine is speaker enabled. Wired in a cigarette lighter from Wallyworld. I also use the sunshade. I do find it helpful.
