I'm trying to figure out what would be the best way to hardwire the 500c to my bike. The wire supplied with it I saw really isn't long enough so I'll have to splice it. Where do you keep the plug in power connector so it dosen't get wet in the rain if your not using the gps. That second female plug, can you plug a set of headphones into it? I was thinking of hardwiring a cigarette lighter with a weather resistent cap on it to the bike and just plugging the cigarette lighter power adapter into it and using that headphone plug that's attached to it. What have you all done? Thanks for the help.

I am interested in the same questions. I just ordered my Iway.

I spliced my in and I just let it hangdown out of the way when not in use. Never had a problem with it.

Make sure you wire it in to a "always hot" wire so you don't have to turn in on and off with the key.

I ended up buying a 12 volt adapter similiar to a cigarette lighter with a spring lid from wal-mart. I then mounted the adapter to the left side of my handlebar near the riser and ran the wires under my gas tank, under the seat to the positive and negative side of the battery. I mounted my ram mount on the right side of the handlebar next to the right riser. This way I can curl up the power wire that has the cigarette lighter insert and plug it into the adapter. I can then use the headset plugin thats on the ciragette lighter adapter to listen to my mp3 music. I installed a quick release mount for the Iway so all I have to do is flip a switch and can remove it without messing with the adjustments. I don't have the link with me at work where I got it from but in my opinion, it was worth the money. Gives it a really secure fit.

Please post more info on this mounting system you reference.
Thanks

I mounted the Iway to the handle bars with the Ram ball mount and the short extension that came all included with the Iway. I bought a metal ball and replaced the quick release mechanism on the back of the Iway (per advice from users). I ran the wires under the tank and put the headphone jack between the seat and tank and ran the power wire(+) through a fuse (Walmart $2) directly to the battery. I attached the ground (-) wire where other ground wires were attached under the seat. I use rubber plugs to cover the headphone jack and the unit plug when the Iway is not on the bike.
So far it has worked flawlessly!

Beauty of IWay is everything (wiring, ram mounts, etc.) is include for install on the bike and to use in your auto. I bought the 'metal ball' ($8) for my own peace of mind.

Another cool thing I've added is satellite radio, but that is another post!

Motoman,

You may want to check out the new IWAY-CMS Quick release with safety latch and bracket for the IWAY from Mounting Innovations. www.mountinginnovations.com (http://www.mountinginnovations.com).

The custom fabricated bracket attaches to the back of the IWAY and repositions the QREMM-SL quick release with safety latch to underneith the GPS. This redistributes the weight of the IWAY from the rear of the GPS to the bottom. Of more significance, by repositioning the quick release to underneith, you have almost an unlimited range of positions.

The QREMM-SL quick release mount also allows you to swap between your GPS and a video camera so that you can video tape your ride. It takes about 3 seconds to swap between your GPS & camera.

If you are going to the ROT rally, having a video camera mounted on your bike is lots of fun.

I have primarily been selling this to Goldwingers and have decided to expand to the VTXer market. The IWAY-CMS and QREMM-SL can attach to the VTX handlebars with either the RAM u-bolt base or the RAM reservoir base

That metal ball you buy elsewhere that attatches to the back of the Iway stopped all the bouncing you get with the Quick Release that comes with the Iway. You still can get the Iway off the bike pretty quick just by turning the "arm" handle knob and pop it off the metal ball.
