View Full Version : Dirt Bike/Trail Riders, Anyone?
Looking for some local trails to ride near the Woodstock area. Some of my old trails have been closed and posted 'No Trespassing" (darn developers). I would rather ride where it is allowable, don't want to deal with irate land owners or police. Any local knowledge would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

I might get a dirt bike sometime this year ... been looking at trailering it up to the Telico Plains area to ride. I have heard it is an awesome place to ride (but 2.5 hours away).

I've got some friends that live in Dahlonega and they take their 4WD trucks/jeeps out into some forest service lands a lot. You might check out some maps. You could also probably find out some places from a motorcycle/atv dealer or maybe their are some dirt riding clubs in the area. There was one booth at the m/c show last weekend for a off-road riders rights organization. I'll try to see if I have anything from them, but I remember they were associated with The Blue Ribbon Coalition and you can look them up on the internet.
I am not familiar w/ The Blue Ribbon Coalition, but I will do some research. I have ridden some of the ORV's that the US Forestry Service maintain, but am looking for some local places when I want to go kill a couple of hours during the week. I'll save the farther places for when I can kill an entire day and enjoy the terrain w/ my buddies.
Thanks for the info.

Yeah those darn developers is right. When I was growing up and riding that area it was dirt bike heaven. The old thousand acre area was paradise, you could ride all day back in there with the only care was of getting lost. By the way Town Lake takes up that area now. Good luck in finding some undeveloped dirt to ride on in your area, it seems to be non existant now, at least in the north Atlanta area. If you travel further north, you may want to check out some of the bicycle shops for books on atv permitted trails. I know when I did the mountain bike thing, there were some atv trails listed in the same books as the biking ones.
I am with you on the 1000 acres area. I road it quite a lot as a kid growing up in Cherokee Co. The irony is I live in the area now. I have a few local areas to ride, but would like a few larger ones like I had in the past. I'll keep my eyes open.

The GA Forsetry Service has a listing of ORV Parks just for dirt bikes and 4 wheelers. Go to http://www.durhamtown.com and they have a link to the ORV parks for GA. I have rode on most of them in NE GA and they are well maintained trails and a lot of fun.
