I got these from custom cycle sounds, and they sound great. The amp is built into the housing.http://bigbikeriders.com/photopost/data/500/5595grips-thumb.JPG

Hi Mike -- we seem to travel in similar circles...
I use a Roady2 XM radio additionally amplified by a Mix-It2 amplifier and piped into my Autocom communications system. I've been considering supplementing that setup with a handlebar speaker system. Accordingly, here's my standard treatise on the difference between both the RumbleRoad ("RR") and MotorcycleTunes ("MT") speakers, which for all intents and purposes are the two premier amplified motorcycle speaker systems:
GENERAL/SOUND -- I think it is widely agreed that these two are the best speaker systems for motorcycles. From what I've read, they both sound GREAT, however, I've read several reports that the RR sounds a bit weak at freeway speeds. Not the case with the MT.
POWER: I don't know the exact number but the MT has I believe about twice the power as the RR (if not that, then substantially more power).
LOCATION OF AMPLIFIER: The RR amplifier is actually enclosed in one of their speaker housings, while the MTs' amp is a separate unit you'll have to install say, under your seat.
LOOKS: I personally like the looks of the RR better than the MT; it just looks more like a reverse chromed spotlight and is quite striking. If that was a "10," I'd give the MT an 8, comparatively.
PRICE: The MT are at maybe 2/3rds the price of the RR. MT also includes the mounting hardware (RR does not). So clearly MT's are the much better buy.
BOTTOM LINE: For value and power, go with the MT; for looks and convenience, go with the RR. Certainly check out this info on their respective websites, but you'll see I'm basically correct.
I am personally still on the fence. I'd like to hear the RRs. If they're "enough" [sound at all speeds] I'll get them. If not I'll go for the MTs which will give me more power and save me some money to boot. Decisions, decisions.

I've got he 2wheel tunes setup, small speakers that blend in nicely.
Compared to these, most speakers look like mickey mouse ears.

I've got the J&Ms. Sound is great! Looks are great! Sorry, I don't have a pic handy. Amplifier is contained within the speakers. Volume control mounts to the left hand mirror.

OK, I'm not sure what this means to a bore hog (or exactly what a bore hog is -- unless we're talking about a certain ex-boss of mine), but I KNOW what that means for Rumble Road speakers. I think I'll officially remove the RR's from my consideration list. Ya GOTTA listen to somebody who has actually had them both. Thanks volking.

Check out www.2wheeltunes.com (http://www.2wheeltunes.com) I've been very happy with this system. First used a walkman but now using XM TOGO. 2 Wheel Tunes has a separate amp and easy to install. 8)
I think $500 is a lot of money for speakers. That is a nice setup but still $500.

That little amp u recieved with ur set up does not put out anywere near the amount of watts as u believe.... I bet u would be really suprised to see the actually rating ( less then half of what it says ). I bet its right around what the rumble roads put out...

No offense to those who have the RR's, butt like i said i have had both and if i remember correctly to test you must keep things exactly the same except you change one variable, in this case the MyFi with two different speakers. RR's i could not hear at hwy. speeds, the MT's i could.
IMO the RR's sound better and look better and i did not care to much for MT's customer support. Bottom line i wanted to hear them at hwy. speeds.

According to the amperage draw the motorcycletunes does put out ~100 watts.

I've had the RR's on two different bikes. First this one:
http://home.triad.rr.com/tonemeister/pics/ACE_Tourer-Rear_View.JPG
And now, on this one:
http://home.triad.rr.com/tonemeister/pics/VTX-Tourer-2.jpg
I had V&H Dual Baggers on the first bike and Roadhouse Classic 2-into-1's on the present bike....both medium-loud exhaust systems. Both bikes have windshields. For helmets, I use a Shoei RF-900 (full-face) and usually leave the face-shield off. I've used both a Rio S-50 MP3 player and a MyFi with the system. I have no problem hearing the system up to 80 mph.

Unless I am mistaken the mt is 100 watts 1 channel or 50 watts 2 channel. It does use a seperate amp... Performance wise it is about the same as the J&M ampfilied speakers.

According to the amperage draw the motorcycletunes does put out ~100 watts.
Amperage draw is not an accurate representation of output power. The only true measure of output power is to hook the output to an accurate load and measure the undistorted RMS output voltage.

Do u believe everything u are told? Believe what u want. Its king of like the cd players u buy for cars, do u really think those things put out 25watts X 4? NO....
How can u not hear the RR at highway speeds? I have gone to 90mph with mine and I can still hear everyword without a problem...

Correct and the RR's put out 46 wats. Had to replace two speakers after trying to play them at hwy speeds. No one with either company pays me a dime i am just stating my results.

I've had a couple of issues with the Blaupunkt speakers as well. It turns out to be a mechanical issue related, apparently, to vibration. What happens is that the magnet basket separates from the cone and the woofer part of the speaker quits working. The tweeter continues to work. MHInstruments provided replacements for me even after the warranty period had run out.

There are 2 types of the out put.
1) IPP
2) rms
a lot of manufactors will show IPP instead of the rms because it is a higher number, I can't remember the forumla to chage the IPP to Rms
I guess I am getting old
the RR has 46 watts and the J&M are 40 watts but the J&M has a lot more volume
basicly speaking there is no right or wrong with speakers.
If you like what you got then it is right for you.

You cant determine volume unless u take the music source into account....

I get ur point. Im getting tired of the discussion on what system is better. This is why Im adding more speakers to my set up ( not RR J&M or anything anyone else has posted). I should be done in a couple of weeks, once I get everything I need. Im not gonna give any word on what it is but I will post pics when Im done. Ur prolly asking y, I always loved car audio so...

That's it exactly, if you like it then it doesn't matter what others say. Can you imagine what it would be like if every one had the same thing, exactly the same. What a boring life it would be. Cool, good luck and hope it works for ya. I am like you I like my tunes.

So for those who have experience with Musictunes.com is it better to go with the 100 or 150 watt amp (the 150 watt amp is on back order until September)? Any real difference? And are the 4" speakers adequate or are people wishing they got bigger speakers for clarity?
Thanks.

BIKERSTER: What a coincidence. I just called this company today (FINALLY GOT THROUGH TO A HUMAN BEING) about that very subject. He told me there's not much of a noticeable difference between the two and that they haven't actually verified the 150 watt amp is pumping out 150 watts. So i ordered the 100 watt amp because they have them in stock and i'm impatient. Hope this helps. For what it's worth I'm going with the black speakers they offer. The dude told me i'd be able to hear them at highway speeds. I post a my opinions here after i get them installed.

Hey Blade since nobody explained your confusion on this southern statement. I will clear it up.....a boar hog(feral male hog) having **** would be useless to the piglets wanting to be fed...

I have the M-T also and know a friend that has the J-M and I'll put mine up against his anytime. Mine has a one hundred watt amplifier that fits nicely in the tool pouch on the back of the windshield. The speaker housings are the same as the driving lights I have mounted already!!!!!! 8) http://bigbikeriders.com/photopost/data/500/178HPIM0056.JPG
