I have seen a flurry of threads as of late regarding tire changing/balancing.

Do you ....

Change your own?

Take the wheels off yourself and bring them to a shop/dealer?

Ride in and ride out with the new sneaks?

How much does it cost where you are?

I take the wheels off and bring them to the stealer,as long as I buy my skins there, mount and balance is free.Plus they cut me a pretty good deal on new skins,so when I weigh it out,it's a working deal for me 8)

I rode into Cycle Design, had a 45 minute wait, and rode out with new skins. Good price, awesome service.

What kind of price did CD give you Craig?

And who is Judi?

Hey Hondo--CD took 10% off the bill. I got the Avon Venoms. Real happy with them. :D
she is the question posting nazi on that other site.

So I see.

Glad to see that you got a fair deal out of CD. I have to be honest with you. That one time I was in their shop they had aluminum all over their grinding wheel. It's a sign of a hack mechanic and did little to inspire much confidence in them as a shop. I hear they do a great job on the sales end of things though.

I also had mine done there. But I brought my own set of tires. No problems at all. Everyone was real nice. They even installed my new exhaust for me while I waited. Price was decent.... Not an Indy but with the discount it was good !!

I'm a person that demands customer service. One thing you never hear of is a dealership actually calling you a few days later to make sure you were happy with the work. They called and wanted to make sure everything was ok. THATS customer service and I'd go back there again !!

VTXFanatic,

If you don't mind me asking...How much was it for the tire mount and balance? Places down this end of the state have been about $40-45 that I have found.

I'll have to check. I had a new wheel put on in the front so that was extra to swap them out. I think it was 55.00 before the discount... So I would say 50 bucks. If I have to run out there to have it done anyway, I might as well have them take em on and off.

The price of getting old and not wanting to do the work yourself

Wow, wicked nice Craig.

So I guess you're just nice to me to my face, huh?

Wow... I read this after the other thread. Not sure if you are a Nazi Judi but you aren't the Nazi I was referring to in my post.

Kind of ironic that my kids are one-quarter Jewish and I get called a Nazi. Soooo not cool.

LOL, I had posted a much longer rant on the other thread and then deleted the contents almost immediately when a wave of better judgement swept over me.

Therefore the message that just said... "Errr".

I think on YOUR bike, with those tail lights you have, whitewalls WOULD ROCK!

Whitewalls... which brand are they? My cousin wanted some for his Valk and says they don't exist, not sure what size that is though...

VTXFanatic

Just almost stock size 140's in the front instead of 150's

The same kind that is above my belt (Dunlops)

Does your bike have spokes Hubba? If it does then WW are the only way to go. With cast rims it's a tossup....mostly dependent on the bikes color...looks better with some colors than others.

$20 apiece if you remove your own wheels at Central Vermont Motorcycles in Beautiful downtown Rutland, VT. I had them mount, balance, press bearings and mount rear flange for $75.

Road Trip!

I do have customers right there in sunny Rutland... :-)

Ooooo...Vermont. Hmm....last time I was in VT I made aquaintences with the boys in green to the tune of damn near 2 full tire swaps.

Still, that beats anything down this neck of the woods.

Just got back from Greater Boston Motorsports. Actually this is where I bought the bike on a recommendation from UxVTX. They had an unbeatable price on the bike during the fire sale and I didnt have to traipse across the country to get it.

I called a bike shop near work for prices on mounting a tire (already had it) to the wheel (already off the bike). Virtually every place said $40-45. last place I had called said it was a week waiting list.

I didn't want to hump it out to CD. They must be close to 90 miles from the house. If I was going that far I may as well head out to VT and get it cheaper. Called GBM @ 4:15PM, 20 minutes later I was there getting my tire changed for $25 including balancing and tire disposal. Unbelievable! I was in and out of there in about 15 minutes. Thanks to Hal the tire (rear Avon R) was only $125.

If you are in the Boston Metro area I would give GBM a big thumbs up. At least for tire mounting.

Now to do the front. :D

Dude! We are gonna be riding this weekend eh? Very cool!

You know, I thought of GBM today but figured in and out of Arlington might have been a little tough for you during the week. Did you say hello to Bill McGowan? Do they still have my mugshot on the wall? LOL!

Hondo812
04-19-2006, 10:49 PM
I think I saw Bill McGowan...white hair...white goatee? Didn't notice your pic anywhere.

You wouldn't believe all the bikes they had going in and out of the shop. I was blown away that they squeezed me in at an excellent price. Now I dont need to hump it out past Fitchburg to pay double just to get tires on. Hopefully these Avons will last at least as long as the stockers (12k). Now I know where I will be getting the next set of tires mounted.

I did ask about the valve adjustment. It seems they usually only do a full service at the 8k intervals. Goes for about $500'ish. I think I will be tackling that one too.

Hondo812
04-24-2006, 12:41 PM
Just a follow up...Second tire was $20 to mount and balance. Total was $45 for both tires done as a walk-in. Many places around here (Boston metro and south shore) quoted as much as $50 to do one tire, some with long wait times of a week or more.

Ux VTX

You know what I paid and I bought the tire where I had mine done! In fairness they took off and put on bike plus gave me wheel to polish with bike on their lift. Pays to service in the winter... :-)

Le's ride!

Hondo812
04-24-2006, 01:51 PM
I started to polish mine and then threw in the towel. The sad thing is if Honda had used a rounded bit instead of a pointed one it wouldn't really be neccessary...or at least a helluva lot less work.

GBM is 5 minutes from my house. I work near Hondo. Try that ride for 17 years

Even though it's an "outbound" commute it doesn't sound very fun...

Hondo, Polishing the rims is brutal... I got mine pretty good but it's not something I look forward to again at all.
