I Brought home my 05 vtx 1300 last weekend I put another 300 hundred miles on this weeekend and I noticed i was always being passed when doing the spped limit using my gps i found out that my speedo is off by 5 miles an hour just wondering if anyone else has had this problem or knows of a quick fix for it. Thanks

Seems to be the way Honda has done things. This is a common complaint from people on vtxoa. Looks like 3-5 mph at highway speeds is the norm. Nothing much to do to fix it. Just learn to drive +5.

That isnt what I was hoping to hear. I am going to contact the honda tech support line tomorrow and find out what they have to say anyhow. I'm sure your right but Guess it wont hurt to dig into it a little deeper. I guess thats the benefit of being a tech in a honda dealership.
I'll let you all know what they say.

If you find an answer I'm sure they'll be plenty of people here who will be interested. For more info on the subject just search in the General or 1800 Tech forums.

Common problem. Consensus seems to be speedo is around 10% fast. Most guys live with it. Some buy a speedohealer.

It turns out that honda and almost all bike manufacturers intentionaly set the speedos fast because of the tires themselves. if you were to line up ten identical tire there may be as much as an inch difference in height depending on what mold created the tires and the chemical composition of the tires resulting in different shrink rates. Kind of interesting when you think about it. so it turns out you were right Rob its a live with it situation.

Yeah... It's slightly annoying, but I've learned to just add +4mph to my normal speed and all is well (I guess that totals out to about +12 then... :D )

Speedo's have been this way for more than 30 years. Your lucky you didn't end up with the 85 mph limit speedo's that some goofy women some how made them do this in the mid 80's.
As if this had some bearing on throttle twist.

The comment on tire size difference cannot be compared with stacked un-mounted tires - period.

Only the older real die hards are going to know where the real tech's were doing their thing - from mid 70's - to when Twin City Honda closed at the old Mazda building Midway St Paul in the later 80's.

No one came close to the wild stuff we did there. I still have My CBX from there. As did everyone at the shop - but the ones we raced - if these are still around some where - would still out techno geek them still.
250hp - 10" slick left a mark all the way. Turbo and electronic air shifting.

One more ride on it would do me for another 20 years. If only I could hold on during boost.
Some of You may have seen them.

I'm shopping for 2 - F spec 2,3 right now.
