On Saturday 04.08.06, a ride was held to raise money for the Matt Maupin Scholarship Fund at Glen Este High School in Milford (Cincinnati) Ohio where Matt went to high school. He and his family are from the Cincinnati, Ohio area.

Sgt. Matt Maupin is the only American soldier missing in the war in Iraq. His official status is “captured”. Sunday (today) marks 2 years since his capture. (I can’t bring myself to use the word ‘anniversary’, as if to celebrate something).

Riders from great distances came to ride and show their support for Matt’s parents, Keith and Carolyn Maupin as well as other members of his family that were on hand. There were riders from the northern parts of Ohio (Columbus, Akron) Central Ky. (Lexington) as well as riders from Greater Cincinnati and Northern KY. The estimated bike count was about 400.

Many different Riding Groups were represented, (Southern Cruisers Riding Club, Leathernecks, Patriot Guard, Christian Motorcycle Association, and Task Force Omega. So as not to slight anybody, this list probably does not include all the groups there. I am just listing them based on the patches etc. that I saw.)

The weather was VERY COLD…
At the beginning of the ride, the temp was about 38 degrees and cloudy. Mid way through the ride, the clouds went south and the sun came out making it somewhat bearable.

The ride ended at the American Legion in Mt. Carmel, Ohio where we had food, music and fellowship. I do not know the dollar amount raised for the scholarship fund, but from some of the numbers that were announced, I don't think anyone was disappointed.
