Nodakbassmaster is right. 85 hp at the rear tire for a stock VTX1800.
It is easy to pick up another 10 horsepower by changing you
airbox and exhaust pipes and you can pick up a few more with
a fuel manager. To get more than that gets really expensive.

85RWHP. Not too shabby. Do you happen to know what the torque would be?

I did a dyno drag race and was getting 129 hp on the rear wheel. That is with the heads being worked, the air box was changed pipes and a power comander. All those harleys that went up against me left very upset that the green machine beat them lmao

    Thank You

Yeah, sorry to burst your bubble, but those dyno drags add a lot to the hp ratings. I did the Terresi dyno truck and got 119hp and like 130 torque. On a real dyno, I had only 99hp and 114 torque. Dyno's numbers can be manipulated very easy

I am very disappointed, I thought my 1800 had more power than that.

I'm diissapointed too. I guess the shaft drive really does eat up hp. A friend has a Softail with the 96 in it and I bet he could out run me and get better gas mileage while doing it.

Oh well, my VTX isn't going anywhere anytime soon, it's fast enough. I'm still satisfied even though I'm starting to sound like those 88ci riders.

The only dyno that really matters is the one in your seat.

    .
Well, I wouldn't go that far. My 96 got about 77hp at the wheel. I do however, get @50mpg out of it

Yes it does -- I've said that at least a half dozen times on this site. Besides that, it's gotta add an extra 50 pounds or so to the total weight of the X.

When I had my bike dyno tuned, I "only" gained 7 or 8 horses and 10 or 11 ft. lbs. of torque, but by replacing my stock pipe with a set of Cobra Slashdowns, I dropped the weight of my bike by about 25 pounds. There are a lot of guys around here that spend big bucks to beef up their bike's engines, but think nothing of adding another 100 pounds of chrome. Sometimes you gotta look at the weight, baby. The weight...

If your buddy's H-D has the exact same rwhp and torque ratings as your X, it's all gonna come down to whose bike/rider is lighter and who's "quicker on the draw."

Those Kawi specs. are buggin me. There's no substitute for cubic inches, but that's some serious weight. Horsepower to weight ratio, there, now I feel better. Anyone have a link for a belt or chain rear drive set-up? I remember reading an article on the X when it first came out, early 01 I believe, Honda experimented with belt drives, but found the belt they needed would be so wide it would ruin the looks and styling of the rear end of the bike. Has anyone heard of belt problems with the Kawi 2 ltr? The belt on it doesn't look that wide.

Here are Motorcyclist's numbers for the two bikes. I'd be inclined to use their numbers when comparing bike to bike. All these are really good for is bench racing.

    VTX1800 ('02)
    HP - 94.6 @ 5000
    TQ - 105.1 @ 3250
    1/4 - 12.21 @ 107.48

    Vulcan 2000 ('04)
    HP - 96.8 @ 5000
    TQ - 121.4 @ 3250
    1/4 - 12.43 @ 104.2

I do not have any dyno time on either of my bikes(07 Ultra Classic-04 vtx). Not a chance a 96 ci will out run a 1800 vtx. They are not in the same category.

Uh, I don't know if I wanna answer that. Strange, but the term "ten foot pole" just jumped into my head!

Might be cheaper and easier to put your bike on a diet!

My friend sold his vtx and got a 2007 Harley with the 200 fatty on the rear. And a 21 in the front. He can almost keep up with me. In a drag race. But Itake him everytime and he can't catch me. Last time we did this, he striped his belt gears clean off.My shaft was fine.
