I have a 03 with 6500 miles and need to change brake and clutch fluids. The brake fluid is a light orange and I might as well change the clutch as well.
I've read on this board that a lot of people are using synthetic fluids for both. Is synthetic that much better? Will it last twice as long and no rust?? Just curious. Thanks for any input
The cola color is from condensation built up from heat as you use the break/ clutch. You can use DOT 4 or Dot 5 either is fine. Do not mix the two together. Flush well and you will have no problems.
I just changed out both used Valvoline synthetic 3/4 from what I've read best stuff out there unless you can get the new 5.1 which is compatible with 3 and 4. If you go with dot 5 you'll have to do a lot of work to flush the system completely
I've haven't seen the dot 5 yet at my supply store. But the valvoline Dot 4 synthetic is readly available (cheaper than Honda's brand you get from the stealers) and will work just fine

Any dot 4 will work just fine, a mityvac makes it really easy.
I don't know if they still make the valvoline synpower. I couldn't find it at my last brake job and just used some prestone dot 4 fluid.
