:congrats: Wow Yam, & Victory both have new touring rides with nice fairing great saddle bags and 6 gears !!!!! What is Honda doing ??? They give us a DN-10 for 15 large, A VTX with hard bags and bat-wing fairing would be nice. Looking for a new ride in 2010 or 11 don't want to leave Honda but will have to if nothing is around:dontknow:.
I look forward to a shoot out on those two. The American is only just over $500 more. $17,490 vs. $17,999 I think that eliminates cost being a deciding factor with it that close.
I agree that the Goldwing is a very nice machine. However, I disagree that a VTX with hard bags and a fiberglass fairing would compete with the "Wing". It would more likely draw from Yamaha, Kawasaki, Victory, and even Harley. There is a big difference in my opinion. I would not consider a Goldwing or the Victory Vision for my riding style but I do like the 2010 Victory Cross County.
I love the cruisers and I like the idea of factory hard bags, fiberglass fairing, stereo, and cruise and special paint schemes.
Yes, we can build a VTX any way we want it. However, it seems there is a market that the goldwing is not getting.
Foot position has just got to go on the Goldwing. I love most everything else, but that engine is in the way. So, it is a very good touring bike, but not the ultimate IMO. Honda could make a different tourer more like the Vision, but better. The Vision is not smooth enough for me in gears 1st-3rd, and under 30 MPH, but very comfortable.
Honda seems to be writing their ticket to nowhere.
It seems "Discontinue" is their answer to every problem Honda faces. Not everyone is going to buy the Goldwing after Honda discontinues all their other bikes. I’d buy a two seater sports car convertible before I’d buy a Goldwing.
Competing against yourself, as Honda has done, is not stupid, but is a Good Thing if it means selling more bikes across the board. The more discontinued bikes Honda eliminates from their line equates to less total number of bikes being sold. Sure, it would be nice and profitable for Honda to manufacture just one bike and everyone really liked it, wanted it and bought it….. But I’m not one to buy into that offer and I doubt if there are very many people who ride bikes who would.
How much ice cream would be sold if your choice was between
Vanilla, Chocolate and Strawberry?
Lots more ice cream is sold because there are so many more flavors!

Victory Cross country:firstplace: Better buy than a street glide. Here's a link showing the difference's. I've heard nothin bad about Victory. http://powersports.vanwall.com/featured/victory-cross-country-and-cross-roads To spend $18k for a victory design like this, much better than the HD. Victory lines are smooth and flowing. Just a thought, my dealer here said that the new honda bikes are 1300 engine based, interstate, sabre, stateline, hmmm, we'll see as they say.
IMO, what Honda may be too stupid to realize is that not all people want a frickin' Goldwing. Yeah, it might be the "best" touring bike to some people. But, some people want a v-twin bike without a million doo-dads on it that actually is nice to look at. It seems plenty of people think the Goldwing is ugly as hell, and doesn't fit their height, myself included. This interstate model they are coming out with intrigues me, but it doesn't look like it has a fairing either.

I think at this point ( yeah we are shopping for a tourer ) if I was looking between HD and Victory .... I'd go Victory. But neither is in my sites at the moment.
I did see a Yamaha and I had to give it a second look ... but decided against that as well.
This is completely off base. GM competed against itself by making several divsions of the same car company and sold the same cars with slightly different headlights. If your analogy was to hold true then your idea would have GM making 1 single car. Because if they made 2 cars, that would be competing against itself.
Honda making the Wing and adding a v-twin tourer would do nothing but attract more buyers that are far more interested in owning a fully loaded v-twin touring machine. If they had one, especially a VTX based "Interstate" model, it might very well be in my garage right now instead of one of their competitors machines 8)
The Yamaha Strat Deluxe won't compete w/ a Venture. Just offers an alternative. Bigger cc engine, fairing w/out some the electronic goodies, no trunk, and V-twin instead of V4.
Some people have started to take off the trunk of the Venture and gives it a very cool look.
If I am not mistaken Honda did in fact make a V-Twin tourer, and they did so in the same lines as their competitors.
Suzuki has this one
Yamaha has this one ....
Kawasaki has this one ...
Harley has this one ...
Honda has this one ...
Bottom line is Honda has made a decision based on what it sees as its market.
For me, as the consumer, I am looking for the best equipped, most comfortable long distance touring machine, and one that I can use to 'scoot down to the corner market'.
That gives me a couple of models to look at, but so far the Gold Wing is the only one that fits the bill. Some might say the Wing is an 'old mans' machine, however I like to think they may be close minded against any bike that does not have a V-Twin.
Those aren't tourers, those are cruisers with bags. Tourers need comforts like cruise control, full set of gauges, fairings, trunk or options to add a trunk, radio, locking bags, etc...
The VTX T is NOT a touring maching
They are not full dressers but still tourers. Any large, comfortable cruiser can be with the right accessories. I think mine is.
