Being down to one cage, I had to ride to work in a pretty solid down pour, needless to say, I arrived at work with my clothes just a tad wet here and there. It`s actually been quite a few years since I last applied any kind of leather conditioner to any of my leather, which consists of a jacket with a vest worn over it on the outside, and chaps.
Since I obviously need to purchase some new conditioner/water proofer, what do you guys use and how well does it work?
I've always used mink oil on my leather jacket. I went through 300 mi. of rain one time without raingear and the only part that stayed dry on me was under my jacket, which had mink oil on it.
Lexol Neatsfoot works good. Mink oil works good too but be aware that dogs LOVE to eat Mink oil and things treated with Mink oil. I would also use this.

:agree: Mink oil has worked great for me over the yrs, plus it's not expensive and goes a long way... I just rub/wipe it on and let it soak in overnight then wipe off any residue & sometimes I just apply & go.
Bear grease works very well. Follow the directions for best results, specifically the part about placing the item infront of a heat source overnight. It really opens the pores and gets the grease in. Water will roll off of the leather, especially after several apps. I use it on my work boots, and I can stand in a puddle forfor long periods and my feet are as dry as if I was wearing rubber boots.

You made me remember when my Chesapeake Bay Retriever ate my jar of mink oil. She had a case of the squirts for a day or two, but had the shiniest coat ever for a month after. Lmao.
I usually wear froggtoggs, but I always spray my leather jacket with Camp-Dry every year. Let it set for 24 hours after the spray, and water just beads up and runs off. I have done this now for about 18 years on the same jacket. It keeps the leather supple and water proof. You can get it at Wal-mart in the shoe dept. or just about any other dept. store or shoe store. and a can will last about 3 or 4 years.
I use the baby wipe leather conditioner/cleaner on my jacket and chaps a few times a year. Your local Auto part store will have it and most walley marts have them also. You can make most any leather water resitant for a period of time (till what ever was appied is rubbed off or soaked up into the leather).

Me too. After riding thru rain and hail, my gloves were soaked. I saturated them with Camp Dry a couple times and they, and I, stayed dry. Use Sno Seal on the coat and chaps. I think it's mink oil and bees wax.
Obenaufs leather oil. It's what all the firefighters I know use to waterproof their gear. If you visit the site, www.obenaufs.com, it might be propoganda, but much of what they said made sense to me. Also works great on the leather in your car and furniture to condition and keep them looking new. I've used both the LP paste and straight oil for years and swear by it.
But I haven't found anything (have tried sno-seal, mink oil, silicone spray, ...) that keeps u dry in leather (& leather boots) over a long ride except real rain gear. I have waterproof spats over my boots that do an excellent job, as well as.
I normally wear Olympia mesh & 2 stage liners that do an excellent job. Good for warm/hot also.
But if you're a full time leather guy.... only rain gear (pick your brand. Some better than others. But a different thread). I also have used TourMaster stuff..works great.
Only textiles/synthetics keep u dry on the longer rides (in my experience)
Don't think you could go wrong with any of the above, always used mink oil myself, or the Eagle One leather lotion which has mink & neatsfoot oil in it. I only bought the Eagle One 'cause it was in a going outta biz sale at a dealership, but I was impressed how well it worked. Whatever you get, work it into any stitching really well.
