Anyone ever ride from Los Angeles to Denver? I've got a friend out there and some free time coming up... Any thoughts about routes? How many days should I allow?
Come and join the fun, all are welcome, all bikes are welcome. Very well put together rides and event by Cliff and Carol and the rest of the Colorado VTX Riders
Depending on how much time you have and your desire to hit some "back country", you can cut through northern Arizona (I-10 to Wickenburg to Prescott to Sedona to Flagstaff (through Oak Creak Canyon) to Four Corners. Once in Colorado, you could go through Durango up the Million Dollar Highway to Grand Junction then across the Rockies to Denver. Once you get off I-10 to go to Prescott then get on I-70 in Grand Junction, everything else is state and US highway. See the google map link below. Sounds like a great trip. Take pix.
Take hwy 160 out of Tuba city, Az and across southern CO and then take 285 N all the way into Denver. I did this route a couple of times and it is a very nice ride. No advice getting to Tuba from LA.
Thanks for the advice guys. I will absolutely take some pictures if I can get it together... One more week of craziness at work and then time to plan and hit the road!
Another question... I'm pretty sure I know what most of you will say...
When I got the bike (24,000 mi and very well taken care of), it came with Champion hard bags and a MS Batwing... I've always preferred the look of the 1300c with out all the extras, but for this trip, they should probably come out of storage. For a trip like this I don't see a way around the bags, but the fairing? I don't know.. all that stuff makes the bike feel bulky.

Look at my bike in the first photo I posted, you got to have some bags but I try to keep it minimal and just strap stuff to them. I love the wind and elements in the face I could not ride that far with a fairing and/or shield. Not to mention they look like crap. You do not need that fairing.
Well our opinions on what looks good are irrelevant; it is what looks good to you. I give folks here a hard to about windshields and fairings all the time just fun and games. Do not tell anyone but I have a Victory that has a fairing and it looks a lot like Spike's but my is all black. It is not my tourer though it is my winter work bike.
It all comes down to rider preference. Go with what you like.
