I have started my bagger conversion and have a question for anyone with the Memphis shades batwing. I have the 7 " windshield piece and find the wind buffeting at 60 + is not so good. I wonder if the newer windshield with the flipped up (curved) top would work better. I could buy a 9" or 12" but i like the looks of the 7". I can post pics of the build if anyone is interested.
From dealing with the various windshield heights on my Road Glide, you will want 2 shields. One for show and around town, and one for the highway and long trips. Only way to have the best of both worlds there. Low shield, with or without a flare, will still stop working at around 60mph. You're just moving too fast for the short shield to work.

Yeah, its super eazy to swap them out so thats a good idea. I did today put on the side shields (not the fork lowers) and will test them out tomorrow on my way up st helens volcano to see if that makes any difference. Your bike looks sooooo cushy . Bet its super comfort on a long trip. Nice ride !
I today put on the side shields will see if that helps. Might as well buy the 12" windshield for long trips as I take only 1 per year (2500 miles ). Quick change out for when i ride local and dont want a big goofy piece of plastic stickin u in the air!

The side shields helped a ton at killing the buffeting. Also, I had my batwing adjusted up as high as possible which helped a lot. The bottom bracket was set far back (to the rider) and the top bracket was as far forward.

That makes me hopeful. I do want the wing to hug my headlight ( 1/8") so if i raise it up it would create a larger gap. More air gettin through and I would dislike the look. My forks are raked 45 deg so i put spacers in the top of both brackets to tilt the wing forward at the top. Thanks for the input.

I ran to Home Depot and got some 1/2" spacers or 3/4" spacers and raised my headlight up. I had it so the headlight was flush to the bottom of the batwing. The brackets, on my forks, were all the way to the top of the triple tree.
I cant seem to post pics to this thread of my build. After i paste one in, the text goes away. Anyway. ran up the mountain today with the side shields. No difference in the buffeting. But putting my hand on top of the windshield, it goes completely away. I will order the 12 inch windshield and try that.

Go to the Support&Testing board there are videos showing how to get pics up. Easiest way is to get a free account on www.photobucket.com and then copy them here
Here is what Im starting with.
Wing installed
Test ride with Mustang seat
Also installed Cobra fuel manager (works great) + Ridecraft phone holder + Memphis side shields Waiting for tsukayu hard bags and looking for a sissy bar and rear shocks.
Never got tracking # from Tsukayu but the bags showed up !! Now they are in good shape but what blows my mind is the shipping container they built for them. Yep, its fiberglass !!! Guess i no longer need to buy a new carry on for plane trips. He He. This week i will install these and as usual it will be a challenge for this everything custom X. Looking at a bunch of the members
rides, it seems that having the fender an inch higher is a good look. Or the bags just slightly lower than the fender maybe 1/4 inch. Not sure how i will do it but wish me luck. In transit currently are the progressive shocks and taller windshield ( 12" ) Thanks for the tips guys !
Bags are done ! Took 3 hours to install as they were the universal mount setup. Also installed the progressive 412 shocks to smooth out the ride. Taking a suggestion from one of the members I raised the batwing 1" and with the 12" windshield on, the buffeting is 95% gone. Now i need to decide if i should install the passenger pad and put on a sissy bar and rack. My wife has her own bike so 2 up wont happen. It would be more for those times when i need to carry more stuff and also to get a complete bagger look. I went out for 100 miles today and really like the "useability" of the bike now. Putting tunes on will wait for a bit because i didnt find anything that would pop on with my 45 deg forks and custom handlebars. I think it may have lost its cool factor but im ok with that for now. Thanks to all that helped with opinions and suggestions !
I really wish MS made a 12" spoiler shield for the batwing. The 9" spoiler almost does it, but not quite.
