New to the forum and the vtx

Just wanted to introduce my self, My name is Zack. I'm new to the forum and to the vtx. I traded my 99 honda superhawk in on a 05 vtx1800f spec 3. I loved my superhawk and rode it for 5 years and for about 10k miles. But was wanting to get a cruiser bike so I could be more comfortable on longer rides especially while riding 2up with my girlfriend.
I'm digging right in, the new to me vtx has 11k miles on it. I decided before I started riding I would just go ahead and do some of the common fixes. Pair system removal, desmog, ground fix, check/adjust the valves. I took the tank off on saturday and it was apparent that it had not been off before so I am happy about my decision to check the valves, although I havn't gotten that far.
Also going to flush the coolant, brake fluid, clutch fluid, change the oil and rear drive fluid. Any other suggestions?

You got it covered! The VTX is a pretty bulletproof bike. Minimal maintainence and you'll be just fine!

Ive been snooping around the board for a few weeks now and getting all kinds of ideas.
Ive been busy this passed week and haven't been able to complete the work on the vtx. But I have tomorrow set aside for it, hopefully ill be riding by Sunday.

Used to live in Burnsville on Island, Crystal Lake, across from Buck Hill.
South of it was all corn fields all the way to Apple Valley.

Got all the projects done late Sunday afternoon. Took the X out for a first ride. I am really happy with it, it rides nice and smooth, runs beautifully, was plenty comfortable. It is going to take some getting used to. Coming off of what I was riding (99 superhawk) I'm used to being able to ring them out a little further so I actually bounced it off the rev limiter a few times.
One question I have and I know I should probably post it in the tech section but... doing the coolant flush, (drain/fill). How are you supposed the run the bike to burp the cooling system with the tank off?
What I did. filled the system saturday night. As I was doing other things topped it off a few times as air seemed to be working its way up and the level was going down. let it sit open over night and sunday morning topped it off and put the cap on and filled the reservoir. System currently has 2.5-2.75qts in it including the reservoir to full mark. Does that seem right? Riding it I didn't seem to have any cooling issues, lights coming one, overheating, etc. Do you guys thing it will be ok or should I try and actually burp it somehow?

I'd say you pulled it off just fine.
Maybe keeping on eye on it couple times a re-fuel.

Kinda a bitch on the 1800's. I usually fill them slow, and burp as best as possible. I think you would need a auxillary tank on the new flangeless 1800's.
