Bike Stand

Looking for a bike stand. What is most preferred by yall? (texas slang) I'm getting geared up for bike transformation!

I use a motorcycle jack anytime I need the bike to be vertical or off the ground.

Very dangerous compared to a bike stand. I have heard of some nightmares if them falling off bike jacks.
In-fact mine almost came off mine today!! actually the truth. I was just to lazy to get the stand out. I caught it half way over and man was that heavy to get back upright.
So be safe and very careful.

My jack has a metal support that you can swing into place, so the bike sits on the same rails that are used to raise it, but those rails then sit on a metal support that relieves pressure from the hydraulic cylinder and trues up the rails. When it is JUST on the hydraulic cylinder, you are right, its not so steady and it makes me pucker up a bit.

With the Big Aluminum bike jack, mainly for washing, I put it high enough to get the rubber off the ground an inch.
It can't fall over even if cylinder failed.
The Scoot has to be pulled off the sidestand an inch or two to get the jack under it.
The side stand is never folded up, so it would be on the stand, semi supported by collapsed jack if failed.

I've had it on the jack for weeks with no drift leaking ever.
The long scissor arms allow a inch thick board to sit across between arms and base of jack to take weight of the cylinder, when the Scoot is an inch off the floor.

The China bottle jack type seem to be the ones that fail.
I won't have one because of the high risk.

They are just too unstable on the jack even with the safety metal support. They wobble too much.
With a bike sitting on a bike stand you can climb up on it and jump around and it is pretty solid and I wouldn't even think of doing that on a jack. I know of one person that did that and the whole thing came down and over with him on it so don't do it.

Absolute, no one should ever raise a Scoot to max on a jack, locked or not and un-attended.
One did, and it came down on him, almost a hospital tour, is the other thread in here.

I cant speak for the stability when its up high as I dont raise mine high. Never needed too. What i do know, is that my jack is not a low profile. I have to grab the front brake and pull up on forks to get the jack slid under the bike. Once its under the bike, it stands up on its own, so I can have the bike on the jack, and jack on the ground, and no issues. Im not talking about a bottle jack, this is a platform scissor jack. Typically i go up just high enough to get the rubber off the garage floor and thats it. With the bike on the jack, i can step up onto the bike using the floorboards, sit down, crank it, and get back off and it doesnt move a bit.

Of course, more support is always better, so the businessman in me would tell you to never attempt what I just described, and to always use a long term support structure that was designed to hold a motorcycle. For your safety of course.

I made the same one and is rock solid. I think I payed 30 bucks ffor for the wood and bolts

Mine is only 9 - 1/2" tall and works great. I don't like it so high and have used it at tech session with no problems removing the front end.
If I ever needed to go up higher I could ether place the feet on a 2x6 or just use the bike jack with the stand still in place. But I actually carry mine in my bike.

Yall "ROCK"! I had made a home made stationary stand. I used an old tool box from old truck....
I was looking really for a lift and it's my bad for wording my question wrong! I would guess that scissor lifts are the costly one and the foot pump are the less costly. I understand that you "get what you paid" for. I was wanting to get the input from the everyday mechanic that lives here....LOL

I've built my entire bike using this stand. Kills two birds with one stone...it's a lift and a stand. No moving parts to fail or hydraulics to leak. You can make one out of wood if you don't have the $$$.

if your jack is not a low profile, then you can simply drive your bike onto a couple of 2 x 6 boards and put a small one under the kickstand. then your bike will be high enough to slide your jack under it....


I dont recommend using the jack that lock into place to work on your bike, what happens when the jack fails when its down on the locking dogs and you cant jack your bike back up? if you put it on a stand (any stand) at least you can get another jack under it to lift it off then.

Oh, and i like the pepsX stand too, he's an alright guy

This happened to me....I surrounded the bike with plastic garbage cans and carboard boxes before
using a 6 foot long pry bar to lift the safety bar out of the slots , besides the scare I got it down without incident....sold the red jack for scrap and bought the Costco aluminum jack..... it wiggles

Thank for your comments on stands! I have that project covered. I was more interested in what would be a good lift.

He still makes them. I just got one 2 weeks ago. Glad I did.

I guess it all depends on what lift you have, I have this one, it runs completely under the frame, will lift the bike 30 inches off the ground, and I feel secure with it on there

I'd rather have the one similar with electric screw. Self lock at any height.
I do have the large table by K&L MC650 Electric / Hydraulic.
