    Default LED underglow

SO i am thinking of putting some LED lights on the bottom of my bike for extra lighting while driving at night. I am an engineer but not an eletrical engineer ... that being said I don't know what i would need to wire it right. Thinking of getting something like the link at the bottom of this post. any help would be great.

I know i am probably going to need to get a relay of some sort and wires but what else?

    THANKS FOR ANY HELP

Get some masking tape and a 9 volt battery. Tape up a pod in an area you think will look good and wire it up to the 9volt. Back away and see how it looks. If it is good, use the permanent tape, if it doesn't look so good, move it a try again.

I started with the old Kuryakyn Spider Light kits. Added more Spider light kits, then some 3 LED pods and 5 LED pods from Custom Dynamics and finally a remote control key fob switch.
    I had them all over;
    4 pods under the tank
1 pod under the airbox(had 1 pod INSIDE my old Hypercharger )
1 five light pod on the fork lock shining on the front fender
1 pod on the fan support shining on the front cylinder
1 pod on the rear engine mount
6 pods on the frame shining on the ground
2 five light LED pods inside the rear fender shining onto the chrome rear wheel
1 five LED pod on the battery box shining onto the chrome swingarm

There was more, but I can;t think of where I had them. All on a remote control unit to turn them on from a distance

Got them at http://www.customdynamics.com/index.htm add "VTXOA" in the coupon code box and get an extra 5% off

Check out joeflorida.com. He has great kits, easy instructions and he sends you everything you need. I got the 120 light kit and I am very happy with it. PS-I'm an engineer too (ME). Pm me if you need additional help with the LEDs.

I have a total of 350 psycho led's from custom dynamics. I suggest you do anytype of placement at night (or clean dark garage) were you can see what the lights will look like. if you have a spare 12 volt battery laying around that would be great. LED's can only go one way. as in if you connect the negative to the positive side and the positive side to the negative youll burn the LED. if you get it from custom dynamics read the instructions and make sure to connect the proper wire to the proper terminal on the battery. use 2 conductor as a " rail " to hang your lights off of. Also if you do get LED's from ebay, I doubt you will be happy with the quality of them. some are good some are meh and some are just downright worthless. I know nothing about joeflorida but I can attest to the quality of custom dynamics.

    example.

place your lights how you like using the extra 12volt battery and your test LED. I suggest you make the leads to a test LED about 4 foot long so you have plenty of wire to play with. Once that is done run 2 conductor (black and red) wires along a solid route not to close to your pipes and heat and all that. then just simply connect your LED's to the conductors. Make sure that the black is ground and the red is +12volt, and do NOT mix em up. or youll have some "interesting " fireworks.

Stranded main conductors are best, make sure to solder all your connections and put the connections in a good shrink wrap. should look almost factory if you do it right.

use a switch trigger if you don't get the wireless one.

    any other questions lemme know.

So i think i will be going with Custom Dynamics (2) 4 LED pod (or possible 6) light kits ... i am assuming i need to also get one of the installation kits (which i believe has a switch)

It looks like I should be able to hook both of the light together into the connectors provided in the installation kit ... where would be a good place to mount the switch?

I like to mount switches that i want to keep somewhat hidden, on the side cover. Not on the outside but on the small surface that faces towards the front of the bike

That's the beauty of most systems. You can start with a few and add more all the time. I didn't put all my lights on at one sitting. It was a few here and few there, etc....

I have my remote switch on my R plastic speedometer cover. Ive had other vtx riders come up and look and thought it was a stock switch.
