I think i may be having some clutch issues, thought it just may need adjustment. Usually going into 5th gear I have to push hard on the shifter(harder than the other gears). Also I usually leave it in gear when i park it, so i need to pull the clutch lever in to start the bike. Sometimes it just wont start in first gear and I have to put in neutral to start.
It seems like the clutch just isnt disengaging all the way. Is this a sign of bad clutch or just an adjustment? Thanks, Todd

Check the simple stuff first. Starting in not in gear might be the kickstand switch or clutch switch. How much free play do you have in the clutch lever?

Todd -
Time to drag out the Service manual and review the proper methods for adjusting your clutch. The instructions start on page 3-17 that shows the proper amount of clutch lever free-play. I'd personally start with the major clutch cable adjustment on page 3-18 down above the crankcase. Once that's set properly, use the adjuster up near the clutch lever. I'd almost bet that between a slightly stretched clutch cable and a clutch with a little wear on it, you'll be needing to adjust both ends of the cable to get things back to working properly. |

The manual is right on-the-money as far as adjustment procedures goes. No other special tips or tricks are necessary. As Nike says "Just Do It !!" |
