Default question about the forum

Hey all. . .

No flames (please) . . and I'm not looking to start a controversy thread here. . .

OK, I've noticed in some of the other forums I belong to (PS3, Chevy Impala owners association, etc) it seems they've noticed some of the "hot button" thread topics can get out of hand and unravel quickly (specifically on the PS3 forum, they actually tell you console vs console debates are not to be done and will be locked) . . .

I got thinkin about it, seems like a good idea. I mean, lets look at the history here, Car tire threads (95% of the time end badly or go badly quick), Honda vs. HD threads, etc. . . (I'm not trying to start any debates here about any topic, just using examples)

Dunno how much work that'd put on the MODS, but it would seem that telling folks (via sticky or whatever) that posting such threads has proved volatile and pointless in the past and further posts will be locked, and repeat offenders will be removed. . .

What say y'all? Has that been discussed before?

Car tires, eh? So, what's yer beef with CT's??? Why do you hate them so much? Have you ever ridden on one? Why do you think CTs are only for cars?

Is that what you mean by getting out of hand?

For me it works like the TV switch....turn the channel or turn it off when you don't want to see it.

I choose not to read the things I don't like. That's all the moderator I need.

That's my opinion.

I guess your right, just seems some of the crap "mines bigger than yours" and "I'm right your wrong" disputes would be ended quickly or not created at all. . . And if it was put out there that threads like that won't be allowed, it would keep more important threads on the top of pages (like carburetor problems, or whatever). . . just typing out loud I suppose. . . But it would also keep folks from having to constantly "bump" threads to get them back over the aforementioned pointless threads. . .

Oh yeah, left out the wonderfully pointless 1300vs1800 debacle. . . i mean debate.

You have that. Under everyone's name on the left side of the thread, there is a small "YIELD" sign looking button. That is to report any post you feel is way out of line be it from nude pics to unruly behavior to threats from anyone to anyone. Click it, give a reason and an instant e-mail goes out to board moderators

Guess someone needs to go back and check out the rules of the board. . .

<--------- could be this guy. . . .

Dunno though, seems like saying, "These topics are out of bounds, as they don't generate productive converstation" could help some of the troubles. . .

Answered my question for the most part I suppose, thanks for the time Spike

I still never have understood the problem with posts about anything.

I understand porn, or racism, things like that (and I agree about them being dumped, and the peple banned), but who caes if there are twenty battles going on about tires, Honda vs. Harley, etc.

It seems it's always the same people, and if you don't want to get involved, just don't click on that link. There always seems to be enough other things going on.

It's like TV. If you don't like what's on, change the channel.

I agree with you 100%, don't like it don't click it. . .

My bigger problem is this, when there are 5 dark side threads and/or three 1300v1800 threads, and someone has a legit question to ask, the "hot button issues" trump legit problem (they invoke the most responses), and push it off the front page. The OP then either has to continually "bump" their topic to get the question answered, or it goes unanswered. . . . . hopefully I'm explaining that right. . .

anyway, was just kind of thinking out loud is all. .

I know I like to post things that aren't always pro-vtx and some aren't even motorcycle related but I do enjoy the discussions that go on here no matter which way they turn.

First amendment: Freedom of speach and press.

If one does not like the topic (or the way it goes) then one has the right to not look at it or at least not participate. Whether or not I have an opinion, I find it humous to watch how folks get so worked up over something so silly as what kind of tyre somebody else puts on their motorcycle.

y'all are missing my point. . .

Yes, absolutely freedom of speech. . .BUT

See my previous post. . . When there are 5 car tire threads and three 1300vs1800 threads along with my HD is better then honda going on. . . and someone has a legit question, it will get bumped quickly from the page.

That's my only point to the whole thread. . I'm really not trying to step on free speech, nor trash the Constitution or American flag or anything else. . . just sucks when someone has a legit question they need to bump their legit thread (sometimes multiple times) to get an answer because the hot button issues keep illiciting rapid fire responses. . . that inevitably get the thread deleted due to someone stepping over the boundries of the forum.

Like I said, was thinking out loud. . I have my answer now as to why this board doesn't work like the others.

you having a lotta probs getting your legit, important posts noticed? I'm not.... just recently posted about busting out the cap that covers the timing index in my rightside crankcase cover, and I had OUTSTANDING answers, reasurrances and advice within an hour. No issues whatever in keeping track of it.... I think your lookin for a fix to a problem that does not exist.

Not trying to make a problem out of anything. . . and no, I have had no issues getting questions answered mostly when I ask them. . It does not change what I've seen happen (it does happen from time to time).

As I said, I was thinking out loud. . next time I'll be sure to post a "is this thread OK" request before asking a question about how the board works, and why things are done the way they are.

I asked a simple question. I got my answer. There was no hidden meaning, no secret agenda, no black helicopters. Thanks for your participation in the thread though.

Folks get confused about the constitution ...

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

This board is "private property" ...

The owners make the rules ...

You have a right to say it ...

... but the "mods" are under no obligation to to post it ... or maintain it ...

but ...

opinions vary ...

all blessings ...

crew

This board is more than just about motorcycles. It is about motorcyclists. It is the latter that makes this site so successful. Differences in opinions can get out of hand at times, but for the most part it all works out. And there are plenty of folks on here who want to help, therefore they go to page 2 and 3 if the first page is clogged up with nonsense. Without the nonsense, this board simply would not be the same. Just my opinion.
