Default It has begun.....my F model build.

Thanks to Mutt and his misfortune (if you don't know, he wrecked his trailer with the scooter on it). Thanks Mutt!!! (j/k)
He was kind enough to make me a good deal on all of his stripped off parts.

21" Trinity front wheel with matching rotors.
Sumo-X fender, struts, and seat.
A brandy new Sumo-X solid rear wheel.

I will now be able to build my F model up the way I've always wanted too, but haven't been able too because I didn't have the 4G's this would have required, to buy new.

I've got the fender struts stripped of the powder coat and off to the chromer (ahhh chrome!!) and tomorrow will begin stripping the rear fender of the spray-on bedliner stuff. That should be alot of fun!!!!

I've already done all the bolt on chrome you can imagine, forward controls , 6* triple trees, and punisher drag bars, and I've had a stock swingarm modified by a local race car builder/fabricator.

So for my own enjoyment (and maybe yours too) I have decided to post my progress to date.

Everyone knows what it looked like when I bought it.

February 08 - Stock used very low mileage.

Summer of 08 - after the triple trees, bars, lots of chrome and lowering shocks.

March of 09 - after forwards, D&M intake, custom paint job, and more chrome.

More to come in the next few weeks!!!!!!!!!
Thanks again Mutt.

They are CP's Punisher bars, they are quite a bit forward compared to the stock bars, but I'm 6'4" and found the stock bars much too close for my long arms. I would NOT recommend them for someone with short arms or if you do not like the "lean forward" riding position.

I've got the 8* and same forwards with 11.5 progressives. How does it corner for you. I keep hitting my pegs and having to change my pants.

They are 11" but they suck, they blew out recently. Got a pair of 11" 412's I'll be putting back on with the fat kit.

Corners well, I do drag the pegs but I know when to expect it so it's no problem.

Well it's been a long weekend, ever tried stipping rhino liner? It's not an easy job but I got it done.

Update, fender in the paint shop tomorrow morning, should get it back by thurs. Fender struts are at the chromer due back on Friday.

Front wheel is on, now I 've gotta decide on the front fender.
Rear wheel is ready to be mounted, that brings me to the depressing news.

The swingarm is warped, I had it modified by a local fabricator who claimed he knew what he was doing. I guess not, the flange that the final mounts too is bowed in about 3/32" from where it should be, doesn't sound like much until you try to install the axle. It's off on the right side by 1/8". So back it goes, I hope he can fix it.

The pics are dark and grainy, it suites my mood.

Damn it!!!

I guess I'm still learning. Every road here has a curve and very few are banked. I took a curve the other day that I usually do about 40 in my car and got to 35 on the bike and here came the sparks. I'm probably going to exchange the 2" extensions for some 4" to help with the aforementioned problem.

Dude that sucks about your swing arm. Hope dude knows what to do. Don't know enough to even know how to feel sorry for ya.

Default Update 11-18-09

Just a shoot of this mornings "Mock-up" session. Fender struts are back from the chromer, it was time to chop off the frame rails.
Front fender finally arrived Tues., got it chopped up to suite my fancy, I think its a pretty close match to the Sumo fender. Now to paint it.

The bad news is I'm still trying to resolve the Swingarm situation.

If your thinking about trying to do the 240 conversion on a budget, don't do what I did and ignore all of the advice about buying a modified or other
tubular swingarm from a reputable source. It will cost you unnecessary time and money!!

Gettin there!!
