I just went on a long 6 week RV trip towing the bike. I was refused a camping site because I had a motorcycle! Not because I was riding a motorcycle. It was on the trailer and would stay on it because I only wanted to stay the night and move on. But because I had a motorcycle. Not because I was the typical trouble maker. I am a 56 retired ffer and had only the wife with me. Not because they had no spaces. They had several until they found out I had a motorcycle on a trailer.
So, if you are ever in Half Moon Bay, Ca. stop in at Pelican Point RV campgrounds and say hi.

Did you speak with the owner? Man is that place so busy they can turn away folks with trailers? Just wow.

Ya know, that sucks; but if the owner feels that way, its his business and property and I can respect his right to be an ass. I don't wanna be where I ain't wanted any way.

Really surprising they would turn you away like that. They must have had one really bad experience to be doing that.

No, I didn't talk to the owner. I kinda agree with prs about not wanting to be where I wasn't wanted. They said they had a couple of complaints about motorcycles. Well, what about those barking dogs or screaming children? Are they going to keep them out?
I have heard about motorcycle clubs sending out scouts to get a camping site and then the whole gang shows up and parties down. I suppose that would cause a complaint if it was true.

Next time put a tarp over the bike and if they ask, tell them your hauling a Pink Pony. They cannot check under the tarp with out a warrant !

Then there is the other side of the coin!
For years, I enjoyed staying in a camp ground on the bank of the Potomac River. One summer, bikers started showing up. They enjoyed drag racing late into the night with their drag pipes bellowing throughout the mountains. No one slept. No one enjoyed their stay except the bikers. Rather than incurring the wrath of the bikers, the owner closed the camp ground. Sometimes the 'bad apples' spoil it for everyone. Geezer |

Dont buy it man .. I own a travel trailer and have been camping for a while all along the east coast and south east. I happen to leave the bike home because when I pull the camper .. its usually a family vacation or weekend.
But .... This is bu11sh1t. What happens when there are unruly campers that dont have a bike ? They are warned and asked to leave. That is exactly what should happen in any and all cases no matter what you arrive with.

I don't see a problem with someone who owns a piece of property, dictating what's going to happen on it.

I thought you meant brand discrimo when I read your subject title. I, 58, have my 2004 VTX1300R and ride with my 67 year old friend who rides a 2004 Triumph American here in the Detroit area. Everywhere we go, my friend and I pull up and dismount, and ALL the Harley guys will be drooling over each other's bikes. Then one might see my friend's Triumph and, usually remembering his "old" Tri, will come over with his friends and make a fuss over the Tri'. I'm all but ignored. A cursory, sniveling once over of my bike and that's it. I'm not an attention freak, but no one likes being ignored! I notice the BMW rider's don't fare much better. They are looked at as lepers or something from another planet.
Anyway, that's my beef, and reply. Last edited by kklaus; 08-02-2010 at 03:50 PM. Reason: Icon keeps popping up where I typed in age (58) |
