I stayed out of this since it has been 2-3 years since I rode a buddies 1300 but i got curious and went and rode another one last night.
It felt like riding a mini-bike, handled great but that is the only good thing I have to say. My ride on the 1800 put the smile back on the face. I am not slamming the bike but I guess I am use to the 1800.

I would never trade down. But the 1300 is not that bad a ride.

They're a different audience from torque addicts who buy muscle cruisers (some of whom do get bored and move on to something else--like I did when I went "down" from a Rocket III 2300 to the more "sedate" VTX 1800). |

I looked at a Rocket III when they first came out. That is one sweet ride.

one or the other.Having a lot of spinal problems,it will most likely be the 1300,but,I do like power, thats why I tried to "tickle"the Honda engineers by putting the 1200F v4 engine into the vtx frame.I have 2 notebooks full of info since I found this great site. SO keep the info coming for a "newbie",now only needing one thing.....for my investment to bare fruit...its close, but, just 60 days away and ole man winter comes early to these mountains....so,once Im on the scooter, look out all of you good friendly types as I will head south and want to pitch a tent in yer back yard. LOL

There is no substitute for horsepower. The 1800 is the ultimate aphrodesiac IMO!

If humongous hp is your aphrodisiac you need a crotchrocket not a cruiser. You'll think you just downed a whole blister card of V1@Gr@. |

BEST deal at Chanute right now is probably 08 Warriors for $7999. Get yourself a muscle cruiser and the potato sound for a leftover 1300 price. IF you happen to like the looks of the Warrior that is--a lot of people don't. |

You guys that say if you want to ride two up you need the 1800 kill me. I have taken my wife with me a few times (combined weight around 400 lbs) and my 1300 pulls just fine. It really doesn't seem to work the motor hard at all.
I also want to add I do like the sound of the single pin crank. It sounds like a bike is supposed to sound IMHO. Since i don't listen to music when I ride that motor is my only company and the 1800 just doesn't sing my song. And no I am not a Harley wannabe.

I bought a 2004 1300C in 2005, and then added a 2004 1800C in 2006. For awhile I had both bikes AND my old Shadow.
I kept the 1800 loaded up with a windshield, bags, backrest, etc for trips and cruising with my wife/kids. Kept the 1300 stripped down for hopping around town. Stayed that way for several years, and enjoyed both bikes... but I found over time that I really did prefer the 1800, and in '09 I sold the Shadow and 1300, keeping just the 1800. Never regretted anything but the difference in gas mileage, and thats mostly due to the wrist-factor, as I tend to be "a little aggressive" as my lovely bride puts it. ![]() 1800 is the real deal, and whether its around town or a trip to Arkansas for the weekend, it hauls both our butts around with plenty of power to spare - and when its just me, it'll lay rubber.

Here's how I look at it. If I wanted to buy a new Camaro, I wouldn't get the six cilinder.

Maybe it's just me but I think the rocket is butt ugly, esp. from the front w that huge radiator sticking out on both sides. Not to mention the gas tank which seems too tall and thin, rather than the classic stretched look, like our VTX. That bike sure can pull like a mule though, 165 ft lbs of torque.

Have you ever seen the person who buys that super fast showie expensive vehicle just to drive it around town? 1312cc not enough? I ride with guys that have roadkings, fatboys, indians and have never been in the rear unless I chose to be. Our last ride was 1340 miles I got better gas milage. Sure I would love a 3000cc just because bigger is better but I'm reality 1312cc is just fine.

I just recently stepped up to an 1800. What a difference in every aspect. Truly a much better riding experience!

Don't get me wrong, the 1300 is a fine ride, but way underpowered after owning an 1800.
