I came into work tonight about 17:00 hrs, (5pm) I saw a guy I work with getting ready to go home, he rides a crotch rocket. He's young, like 23 years old, fresh outta the army. His dad works here as well and we are on shift together. Well about 1900 hrs. (7pm) my friend got a call that his son had been in an accident and he needed to come to the hospital. I just found out, his son was riding home not 3 minutes from work when a cager pulled into his lane to pass an 18 wheeler. He hit my friends son head-on, he died as a result of his injuries. As bikers we really need to make ourselves noticed. I am not sure if he could have done anything to prevent this accident, however we really need to pay attention when we ride. Cagers will pull out in front of us, cut us off, and just plain not notice us. Please folks, RIDE SAFE..

Prayers and condolences for family and friends.
Hard to say but if your on a Two lane road there isn't to many places to go if someone comming towards you pulls into your lane right in front of you.

Partner...gonna toss out a personal opinion here...and we all know just how valuable an opinion usually is.
Thus far, I've got 23 years of active duty time and I've been in places and have done things all over the world, some of which I'm proud of and others I'd really rather forget ever happened at all. I've had troops who didn't come home and other troops who made it home despite facing some pretty stiff odds that, by all rights, should have swung the pendulum the other way. I firmly hold to the belief that each and every one of us are born with a pre-determined date/time to die. I further believe that when that date/time comes up, it doesn't matter where you are or what you're doing, you're gone. Now, I don't expect -anyone- else to hold to this belief as everyone else has their own ideas about everything else anyway but this one is mine and it's brought me more than a little peace of mind over the years.

Crappy set of events right there. As commented earlier not too many places to go on a 2 lane... especially with an 18 wheeler taking up the opposite lane and a cager gunning it to try and get around him. I hope that cager at least gets prosecuted for reckless driving.
Please pass on our condolences to your friend.

There is no pain greater than to bury one's child.
My sincerest regrets and sorrows.

Condolences and Prayers for all involved. The problem is that this is not an isolated incident.
A lady rider in my lifegroup sent me this. Heads up, folks, it's dangerous out there. >>>Do you see the motorcycle?<<< Image (5).jpg >>>NOW do you see the motorcycle?<<< Image (6).jpg Image (7).jpg Image (8).jpg The Honda crotch rocket rider was traveling at approximately 85 mph. The VW driver was talking on a cell phone when she pulled out from a side street, apparently not seeing the motorcycle. The rider’s reaction time was not sufficient to avoid this accident. The car had two passengers and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them. The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact and landed 20 feet from where the collision took place. All three involved (two in the car and the bike rider) were killed instantly. This graphic demonstration was placed at the Motorcycle Fair by the Police and Road Safety Department. Pass this on to car drivers or soon to be new drivers, or new motorcycle owners AND ESPECIALLY EVERYONE YOU KNOW WHO HAS A CELL PHONE! Tell everyone you know to stop talking on cell phones and texting while trying to drive. A picture is worth a thousand words. As Chips said, "Ride Safe" and might I add, "Ride Smart." Been around for a while. Same photos different story. Original put the blame on the bike for blowing through an intersection at 125+. Bad wreck regardless and stupid loss of life no matter who at fault.

Prayers go out to your coworker and his family. Sad. I don't ever want to say goodbye to my son like that.

People just plain don't pay any attention. Then I have to wonder how many just don't care.
I have been riding 40 years. That said. Last summer I had to ride between 2 cars going oppsite directions one in my turning lane and the other beside me going the same direction I was. Now believe me there was no room. I was pulling into Burger King for a sandwich. What I did was clean out my pants and leave. I don't think either driver ever saw me. That is the closest I have been to dead in a very long time. Turbo5
