Default Do Gloves Leather Stretch...or Shrink?

Ok....I've bought a new pair of leather Tourmaster MedWeight gloves for fall (first pair of leather street gloves) and can't decide weather to exchange them for some that fit really good new or keep these. I got some that are a little tight at the fingertips because the dealer said they would stretch....But my finger tips are really snug when I got home and tried them on the VTX....Will they stretch out and fit good or if I exchange for a XXL pair, will they loosen out too big?

What do you guys think about your gloves when you buy a new pair?

Default gloves

I try to get a pair the fit fairly snug, not tight. Then put a good coat of leather dressing (I use Langtlitz) on them. Softens em right up after a few rides and they fit fine.

They will stretch and be just right. I would put em on in the house and squirt em with some water then wear em around that night at home. Or just wait til the next time you ride and wet em down a little. They will get right if you do this.

I buy mine snug and treat them a lot. They grow a little but fit fine now. If yours are way tight I would go up a size or two.

Real leather will stretch with use. All of my riding gloves have stretched to fit and soften with a little use. Never loan a pair of gloves you like to someone else, especially if they have hands bigger than yours.

OK. I gotta ask. When and why would you ever need to offer a pair of your gloves to someone else? Not tryin to be a smartazz either. Just wonderin is all.

I have teenage boys and they automatically think that whatever you own is fair game and some times their friends also lose grip with reality and want to borrow your stuff. Didn't come across as smartazzy. Good question.

Not to mention, we use our bike regularly as transportation. Never know when I gotta run somewhere and pick up one of the kids, or my oldest son is out on the other bike and doesn't have the right gloves/gear. Maybe the weather changes ... chit happens.

We have a locker full of riding gear in various sizes.

Having said that I do hide my personal gear from the others!

Guess I was lucky, by boyz never did bother my riding gear.
As for the gloves I bought extra large and was really tight, they fit great now. Of course the fix was getting them dripping wet on few rides in the rain.
wet gloves,,,cold weather,,,yea they fit better now,,,but DANG gloves are worthless once they get wet through and through!!

Default rubbing alcohol

A buddy of mine use to do this with his cowboy boots swore it was the best way to get any thing leather to fit. he would by his boots a half size to small
soak them rubbing alcohol I mean dripping with rubbing alcohol and then he would put them on and wear them tell they dried out, did the same thing with his gloves. he swore it worked. I think he would put a good coat of leather preservative on after they dried.

Gloves are like your balls...

Shrink in cold weather...
Expand in warm weather...

Yessir. I bought a pair of Tony Lamas a few years back. Was advised to put some water in the bathtub and stand in it with the boots on for a few minutes, then keep them on and walk around until they got dry. I thought this is no way to treat a $400 pair of boots, but the guy had been in the boot/western apparel biz for many years, and I did it. Worked like a charm. I then treated them with leather conditioner and they ended up being some of the most comfortable footwear I ever wore.
