My vineyard needs an atv. Anyone know of the best local place to buy one? Most dealers I have stopped at are pushing me towards the hondas. What about yamahas and polaris? I know opinions are rare on this site, but does anyone have one?
there are alot of guys i ride with that have polaris. they have had alot of problems, and most of them say if they could switch they would.
We have had 2 hondas, a 1990 fourtraxx 300cc that we had up till 2 yrs ago, never had a major problem, rode it very hard. Right now we have another honda, a 05 rancher 350, no problems thus far. good power, easy to work on... the only down falls is the ride quality and suspension travel. I have an 02 AC 400i, no real problems with this machine either. 1800miles for the most part hard miles. down falls with this machine is the power... if you go with a cat go with a 650-700cc machine you won't be happy with a 400-500cc machine. not enuff power.
if you have anymore questions, i'll try and help you out. about the only machine i really haven't been around is the kawi.
Thanks! I'd mainly be using it in my vineyard to carry things, spray, etc. In the winter I would probably pull my very small ice fishing trailer out on the lake since we haven't really been able to use cars on ice for more than a short period of time lately. I might bring it up north a few times, but I can't see me doing any high speed riding, racing or motocrossing with the thing. More cruising and carrying things. No plowing, have a bobcat for that.
I had a Fourtrax 300 for almost 9 years and never had replaced anything other than tires and brakes. The quality is unmatched. Of course so is the price.....

if your not going to use it for the mud, pulling anything, then a smaller class would work good. get out and ride them all, see what fits your needs the best. the only thing i really have againest honda is the ride... the only IRS is the rincon 680cc...
Yeah, if your using it for mostly girl stuff, the Honda will do! If you want a real machine the polaris 500 is bullet proof. Polaris is all I've ever owned, but I've pulled alot of Honda's out of the mud
Just my .02
If you want to talk some spec's I'll get you my brothers #, he ownes a polaris dealership and he'll treat you right.
I have a Honda Rubicon 650cc. On the farm here we beat the stink out of it. Use it for plowing, hauling, pulling work trailers, etc. It doesn't get the attention it should get but it starts every time in cold, cold, weather and gets the job done. Highly recommended.
From the sounds of what your looking for you should look at the Polaris ATP it has a small dumping truck bed for carring all your stuff. I think they call it an X2 now because it has a fold down rear seat for a passenger. And you can't beat the ride comfort of a polaris. Honda's are great running atv's there is no disputing that, they just ride like a concrete block. JMHO
I did look at some polaris's, but even the dealers who sell them pushed me away from them. A couple said they are cheaper to buy but break down more often and are more expensive to fix. Don't know if this is because they make more money off hondas and yamahas, they are prejudiced, or or if they are telling the truth. Heard that a few years ago they had some serious quality issues, but polaris says they are fixed now. Kinda nervous about their reputation so I am pretty much staying away from them. Sorry. Thanks!
