Just wanted to find out if anyone else has had this particular problem. I rode about seventy miles in the rain and when I got on my exit ramp, I pulled in the clutch to down shift and the engine stalled. It started right up and near the end of the ramp again when I pulled in the clutch it stalled, but started up again. Anyway, now three weeks later, I was on the way to work, no rain, but damp with fog, after only three miles, when pulling in the clutch, it stalled. It started up with no problem and didn't do it again. Anyone have any idea what could cause this intermittent problem? So far it has only occurred two times and none in dry weather. Thanks for any help.
hows your idle? do you run it real low. check your connections aroung the plugs, you can use some real wd40 to see if it help with the displacement of moisture.
I appears that the plug, ground, and battery has been mentioned. since you mentioned that the clutch was pulled in each time the engine failed but cranked again. I would check the clutch/side stand switches. WD40 is okay but it does contain oil that may take some time to dry. I prefer to use control/contact cleaner & lubricant; you can get it at radio shack. It will dry fast and clean any water from the connectors. You did say the first time was during rain, it could be you have a bad connection now. corroded. A bad ground can do a lot of things so check the ground on the battery.
Thanks for the tips. The battery is new since it was replaced just a few weeks back when the positive post broke, and had it fixed under warranty. I will check around the plugs and such. I thought maybe moisture was getting in the carb someway, but I didn't think about the clutch switch or kickstand switch getting corroded. I will definitely check the idle since I remembered it was harder keeping it running to warm it up both times prior to riding. Thanks again.
I have had this happen, randomly, several times.
Starts back up easily, and you continue on your ride.
A lot of cold and/or moist air here through the winter.
I think that this has something to do with it.
Last year I had a problem with the bike just dying after it started raining and the road became really wet. I would pull over, wait a couple of mins., in the rain, and it would start up again. If the road was still wet, it would die after a short time. Once the road dried, I was OK. I had a Honda mech. look at it and he couldn't find anything.
Someone on here mentioned, What mods had I done and recheck those. I had a power cable hanging out the left side for my Widder heat vest. I taped that up and have not had a problem since, and I've been through some wicked downpours. Go figure.
Good luck to ya, hope you find the problem. Let us know.
