So I did my first commute on the VTX and wore my normal commuting gear, a Hi-Vis First Gear Touring Jacket with matching First Gear armored overpants (I wear over my uniform pants); which ended up a kind of costly mistake. My new-to-me VTX has a Kuryakyn Hypercharger Pro-R air cleaner, Hard Krome Sideburner exhaust, and the rear exhaust pipe is in the perfect location to melt a hole in the bottom inside of the First Gear Overpants, leaving melted plastic material on the chrome of the exhaust. Live and learn... Will have to MacGyver something for the ride home and my thoughts are to using a Titanium exhaust wrap with a chrome heat shield cover to mitigate some of the radiant heat.

Otherwise, the ride in was a blast!

Also a side note, it dawned on me when I bought the bike that there was no mention of a tuner for the mods that is has visible. So with it burning my overpants, I am thinking possibly that the bike is running a bit lean, with the Hypercharger Pro-R and the HK Sideburner, which would probably be the biggest factor in the heat at the exhaust. I pulled the seat and the side panels and couldn't find a tuner, so I am leaning toward adding a Dynojet Power Commander V and downloading a map close to the mods I can see, and hoping that fattens out the fueling and cools down the exhaust a little...

Will have to save a little to get the tuner!

I paid $5,500 out the door, which was pretty much at the bottom of the price range of every bike on Craigslist etc; but included all the state taxes and registration fees. A bonus was that my new-to-me bike was absolutely one of the lowest mileage bikes I could find, with 14.5k on the odometer, most of the bikes on Craigslist, Facebook, and Cycletrader near me, were in the 40k-70k mileage range and initially priced between $5.5k-$7.5k.

Great price. I paid for my VTX1800S3 2006 about 7700$. Mileage was 7400. Condition like new.

You must take attention for mainteinance air filter. It is very important. Good luck.
