Help

Thanks for welcoming me aboard. My name is Bill and I currently live is Chicago and owe a 2002 VTX 1800S. I hope that being a part of this group I can gather information and resources that will my experience as a rider. Currently my bike is down I've been having some issues and hope someone can lead me in the direction of getting it back up and running.

The bike will turn over but will not stay running. I changed the kill/starter switch which was faulty because you had to hold it down several times before the bike would turnover but after a while it wouldn't start. I thought it was the solenoid so I ended up replacing it but it still will not turn over, I can hear the fuel pump kick in when you turn the key on but it still will not turnover. Can some please give me some advice on what good be going on before the summer is over. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the VTXOA!

Starter switch needs cleaning from what I gather to get it to crank.
In Step by Step board is the "Starter Switch" clean and Lube PDF.

Does "turnover" mean cranking or running?

Fuel or spark?? Check the spark, it is easier.

Any aftermarket fuel controller on it??? Power Commander???

Any FI trouble codes flashing??

Sorry about the terminology I am fairly new to the biker scene. I replaced the starter switch and it works fine now. When I stated turnover I meant that it will start and run for about 30 seconds and then die out. I do have an aftermarket fuel controller on it, it was there when I purchase the bike last year. I put fresh gas in the bike but it still will not stay running. Before I take it to the shop I just wanted to get some advice with hopes it will be something I can tackle myself.

OK, check your oil for it being over filled and/or reeking of fuel. The Fuel Pressure Regulator, or FPR, is a known issue and fails due to age, not miles. If the FPR fails it allows too much fuel into the combustion chambers and the excess fuel washes down the cylinder walls into the engine case thinning the oil. Change the FPR, then change the oil and ride around the block, then change the oil again. Here's how to change the FPR; https://tech.bareasschoppers.com/car...ure-regulator/

Disconnect the fuel manger from ECM and other places(injectors if it applies).

Check the 2 pin connector. See link below.

Look at "Ground Fix" in Step by Step board here or at Bare's site.
