Doing fine after surgery
The surgery on Tuesday went like clockwork. Actually, when considering the invasiveness of the surgery, I feel damned good! I'm up and walking around the entire floor 4-5 times a day, which is surprisingly exhausting, but I get stronger every time.
They're just tweaking out some rhythm issues. I came in for a-fib, and while that hasn't recurred I may need a small backup pacemaker to help maintain regular sinus rhythm. I'll find out in the morning. If needed, it's a relatively simple procedure (often done outpatient) and I'll get out Tuesday. If the pacemaker is not needed I might get out tomorrow!
The only drawback: the chest tube they keep in you for a few days (draining blood and fluid around the heart) severely irritated my diaphragm, and I've had several days of almost constant hiccuping - not pleasant with a 10" incision in your chest.
Thanks for all the kind thoughts!
