So 2 1/2 years after posting this thread, I find myself in a familiar situation. I ended up passing on the VTX from the original post. I took a few summers off from riding, but the desire has returned.

Not to give everybody Dejavu, but I am most likely going to pick this VTX 1800N up this weekend, unless this post throws up some large red flag. https://www.cycletrader.com/listing/...00N-5003238193 Looking at what others are selling for, the price seems more than fair, especially with the Batwing Fairing included. The Fairing and quick release mounts seem to be a $500+ option if bought new. It is a 2005 with 24,000 miles. Is there anything that I should be particularly aware of with this year/make/model? Any tell tell signs of the bike having issues? I looked at it in person, and it is in excellent condition. Paint is nearly perfect, chrome looks good, tires are nearly new, etc. I am planning on going to ride it on Saturday with cash available to make a cash offer.

Thanks for the input.....even 2 1/2 years later.

Russell, that is a steal. I bet you can get it for $4K cash easy. Sucker looks good and is ready for more (s)miles...25K is just barely broken in.

So I pulled the trigger yesterday and am the owner of a 2005 VTX 1800N3. Thanks for the input, it helped with my decision.

The way I understand it, they are different trim levels, with the 3 having more chrome from the factory. Although, I am certainly new to the VTX.

Actually, the higher the N number, the more polished parts are installed by Honda. Honda hardly chromes anything extra on their bikes.

Yep - spec numbers are just shiny bits and more of them.
Here's an example of the differences for the C model (only chart I have available)

.

2007 VTX 1800 F Spec 3 - Mustang Seats, Cobra Angled Slashcuts, House of Kolor Blueberry Pearl paint and custom tank badge, lots of chrome, lots of sanding and polishing on the aluminum!
other stuff - HID headlight, airbox decapped plus K&N, ground fix, PAIR/desmog, tail light area minimalized, horn relocation, fwd controls extension, switch spiders removed, reflectors removed, Barnett clutch kit, Cobra FI2000R
