Another great tip which I will be using tomorrow as it is cold here now is latex surgical gloves on first then my winter gloves over the top. I have heard of blokes when touring buying large dishwashing gloves as overs when caught short in the rain. Whatever works!

The cyclists in the tour de france used newspaper under their shirts and/or plastic bags on their shoes when going up the mountains cause of the sudden temp. changes. I prefer heated gear or extra layers.

caught in the rain on the highway? an old trick was to pull into a rest area. usually there was a spare garbage bag under the one in the trashcan and hopefully the maps or ad papers were big enough to slip n your shirt. but anymore if i'm going far from home I take some kind of raingear.
