won't start after running out of gas

Hi gang!
my situation
'07 1800R, 32k miles
It's been sitting, on a level stand, for about a year while I was making repairs after being t-boned by a deer.

I started it up a few times in the last week... no problem

I THOUGHT I had enough gas to get me the mile to the gas station...

I put in about 4 ounces of Lucas gas treatment, took it down off the stand, and..
about 1/2 mile down the road I ran out of gas...

I put about a gallon of fresh gas in the tank and it will not start. It cranks just fine but won't hit.

A friend said the fuel pump may have burned out?? He suggested I check all fuses, and all fuses in the block under the right hand cover are good.

When I turn the key on, I hear about 3-4 seconds of a very low, rumbling/ humming (I can't describe the sound) that repeats every time I turn off the key and turn it back on again... thinking it just needs priming...

The sound is definitely a bit louder with the gas cap off and my ear pressed to the filler hole in the tank.

NO JOY!

I've since added another 3/4 gallon fresh gas and tried it again.. won't hit.

I still hear the very soft, low, rumbling/ humming sound for about 3-4 seconds and then that sound stops.

Any suggestions (other than NEVER run a FI engine out of gas?)

TIA

Check fuel filter, I suspect stopped up by sludge suspended in Lucas gas treatment. Additives should be made to full tank, or at least enough fuel to be diluted enough to allow combustion.

Kevin - Did you ever loosen the high pressure line to the Throttle Body to see if you had fuel flow???
Sitting up for a year, that is about the limit before gas gets real bad in an injected system.
I saw where one 1800 owner had removed injectors, some gelled crap on the fine mesh screen was affecting fuel flow.

I saw your post on FB.. Do something...

'07 has the fuel pump down low, just in front of the front wheel. Anything you hear in the tank would be returning fuel. The fuel pump priming sounds more like a combined buzz and hiss. Did this sound change at all from when you first started it and now? If so, its possible you have blockage at or before the pump. It is possible that the engine stopped, not because you were entirely out of gas but that something got blocked up. As mentioned, this is not entirely beyond possibility as fuel system cleaners at an overly aggressive concentration can lead to all sorts of issues. Just a question, but do you smell gas? Maybe it's flooded.

aka remove the spark plugs...

they will say a lot about the well being of an engine.

Agree. Thats the problem with second gen. fuel tanks. They look nicer without seam and they have owerflow passage line inside, but if the tank gets rusted inside from sitting too long, all that crap goes down quickly to the fuel line and fuel pump's filter and plugs them. Difficult to clean it out. This won't happen with the first gen. tanks.
