Cold start issue - go with the what Harkon said on a previous post with a link.
Since the 1800 needs a good ground for the FI, I would suggest the Ground Fix at the Common Electronics Ground at the front Ign coil.
There is another Ground cable from the starter motor to the frame under the radiator.
One VTX owner cleaned the ends and that cleared his issues.
Remove and reseat the Camshaft position sensor.

I had a similar problem and it ended up being the connection to the cam pulse generator.
The connection was corroded. You can find the connection on the front jug, left side, near the
cam cover facing the radiator.
