When it does start, how does it run? If it has trouble idling when it's cold, I'd look at the wax valve.

2nd or 3rd try????!!!!! Mine always started on the first try, except when the battery was dying. A EFI bike should start on the first try every time.

I read it as 2nd or 3rd revolution of the engine not 2nd or 3rd try.

Or by the 2nd or 3rd the engine will barely crank because the battery is dying...
Weak batteries create more problems..

Cold start issue - go with the what Harkon said on a previous post with a link.

Since the 1800 needs a good ground for the FI, I would suggest the Ground Fix at the Common Electronics Ground at the front Ign coil.

There is another Ground cable from the starter motor to the frame under the radiator.
One VTX owner cleaned the ends and that cleared his issues.

Remove and reseat the Camshaft position sensor.

I had a similar problem and it ended up being the connection to the cam pulse generator.
The connection was corroded. You can find the connection on the front jug, left side, near the
cam cover facing the radiator.

Any mods done to airbox?

Any FI codes flashing?
