radiator cap

do you have to remove the gas tank to get at the radiator cap,or can you just prop it up?

No you don't have to remove the tank but you do have to raise it remove the bolt next to the seat. Prop it up and that will give you give you access to the the radiator cap

Depending on what you need to get to it for; it is possible with some creative finger bending to get it off and get one on without raising the tank. I may have had to do that one day at work.

I added coolant via the radiator cap one time w/o removing the tank. Just pulled the one bolt in front of the seat out and propped it up. Also replaced the FPR the same way, with the tank propped up. Mine is a 2003 1800R. What you are trying to do, plus other year models and other styles may vary.
