Just checked mine after all these years. I found I have about a 5 mph variance up to about 50, then about 7 mph when doing 55.
VTX 20 mph - actual 15mph
VTX 40mph - actual 35 mph
VTX 62 mph - actual 55 mph

I did this with my car and GPS. My daughter ended up behind me in her car one day and called home to my wife to say she caught up to me and for some reason I was going really slow. She knows I usually ride speed limit or a bit faster. This made me check cause at low speeds it was more than 10% off.

Just my $.02 worth.

2004 VTX1300C ... well not a factory C any longer.

I checked mine with my GPS, when I was running @60(gps) speedo says 66. My calculation is -9.1 according to the Healtech web site.

Need some R&D for the speedo

Mine has always been off about 5 mile per hour. Amazes me that Honda can come up with things like the auto-tranny in the new DN-01 but can't get a speedo on a VTX that works right...even after all the years they've been on the market.
Oh well...probably not going to have to worry about a speeding ticket as a result cause usually don't compensate for the difference.

For me...Whats up with the red background light at night. Maybe just me but on my last shadow and on my VTX darn if I can even see it at night unless I am in total darkness....

I cant remember the last time I have looked at my spedo, its literally been years. I use my Zumo 450 gps instead. Every time I ride with others it scares me that they think they are doing 50, 60, 70. and the cars are running up on us because we are doing actually 5 mph slower than the spedo is reading.
I think all bikes are that way. Think about it less tickets for speeding in the news!.

YES, speedo is off, but not the most important thing .... and why

Like many out there, I have same problem with mine. But the longer I ride, the less I look down there. I'm busy enough in a city with horrible drivers ( Phoenix ) just trying to stay alive, so I keep pace with the flow and ALWAYS LEAVE MYSELF AN OUT !!!!!! Most cops understand this, and few will pull you over for minor speeding unless you really deserve it -- meaning you are trying to kill yourself -- in which case you need a reminder about safe riding. Honestly fellow-riders, it is not worth the aggravation to even think about it. Just ride smart & have a hell of a good time !!
