Carb Issues in Denver

Hi all,

I am new to this board. I recently put on Cobra Slip on exhaust and the bike was running fine. Then the next day, I changed out the stock air filter. I put in a kuryakyn pro-r hypercharger, but did not replace the jets. That is when my problems started... When I rolled on the throttle more than 1/4 the engine started getting choked out and started to stall. So I took out the carburetor and did the jet kit supplied with the hypercharger. #65 Pilot Jet; #185 Main Jet; 0.8 Shim under needle.

I am hesitant to do the SCAR method, which I have read a lot about. But am willing to try.

Also, I ride in Denver and up in the mountains, so my elevation is from 5,600 feet to 8,000 feet. Would i need to add more shims under the needle? Adjust the A/F screw.

Does anyone else have this set-up (I assume is kinda common) and live at similar altitude, that can get me moving in the right direction? Thank you!

No, do NOT do a "scar mod"
What you need is a jet kit, the Kuryakyn jets are all wrong. I suggest a factory pro kit and follow the instructions.

Welcome to the board.
You tell us what was happening before you changed the jets, but you say nothing of what the problem is now. Is it the same or different? In the mountains, you will need a bit less fuel than at sea level. That said, if you get the bike running right in Denver, you should be able to take it to the coast and it should still work okay for you. It might not run as well as it does in Denver, but it should be quite ride able.

So what is the bike doing now?

Cool

Welcome to the board from Daytona Beach, enjoy and ride safely. You need to adjust the A/F screw 1 1/2 turns to start off with, then adjust from there.
