VTX 1300R won't start

05 1300R

Bike was running fine today. I took my battery out to start my wife's bike. When I reinstalled my battery the bike won't start.

Symptoms

Battery fully charged
Battery cables tightened with wrench
Starter motor turns over very strong
Engine Turns over very strong
Engine won't start
Plenty of Gas
it seems as if it has no spark
All lights work.

Specific questions

Is there a wire on the ECM on top of the battery that initiates the spark which might have pulled loose?

Are there any wires that I could have disconnected or forgot to reconnect near the battery that will allow the vrx to turn over, but not start?

The earlier I get behind, the longer I will have to try and catch up.
It doesn't take me all day to get nothing done; I can get nothing done by break time.

knucklead that I am.
I was trying to start in gear with the clutch pulled in and kickstand down.
It would turn over but not start.
I thought I had remembered that while in gear with kickstand down it is not supposed to even turn the starter motor. Am I wrong?

Verify your start procedure again. Neutral light?? If it cranks in gear kickstand down there is a problem. BUT the ICM still needs Ground.

Either that or some strange things happened.

ICM has two wires that have issues with a Black or a Green wire breaking. The two most forward wires.

That is what I thought. I just verified again.

Scenario 1
Kickstand down,
Clutch pulled in
Bike in gear . No neutral light.
Bike cranks, but won’t start

Scenario 2
Kickstand down,
Clutch pulled in
Bike in neutral. Light on
Bike starts as expected.
Shift into gear
Bike dies as expected.

Any ideas why?

Not supposed to start (or run) with the kickstand down and in gear, safety feature.
However i am pretty sure mine wont even crank when the bikes in gear with kickstand down. Engine dies if bike in gear and kickstand is put down.

Try those two procedures again but this time with the kickstand UP.
RBS and steveroy60 like this.

This is the first time I ever experienced this issue kickstand down issue.

Kickstand up starts in neutral or in gear with clutch pulled in as expected.

There you go then.

Imagine if the bike could be started while in gear with the kickstand down and the clutch switch didnt work, could lead to having a F'd up day

Safety features... if you ever find that your bike wont crank... first thing you do is check the Kill Switch (handlebars), then neutral, Kickstand, Clutch.

Just get in the habit of starting the bike in Neutral and putting the kickstand UP before proceeding. I always make sure the bikes in Neutral b4 turning it off.

1974, my buddy Bill S.. on his Suzuki 500.. stopped at a stop sign..

the spring broke for the side stand at that moment... he could not complete the left turn.. and crashed..
bike was 3 years old.

Gov-ment rule .. a little later..

but then springs do not fail as often as before also...

The Green/white wire on the KS goes to the ICM. This the KS UP indicator to the ICM.

G/W is good to clutch because it cranks.
KS switch is good because it cranks.

Check G/W ICM wire..

Without a Ground it will not fly..

Y'all stop breaking things.

I am in NC mountains..
