Tire Shopping for my 1300c

I have just over 6100 miles on my Shinko 230 Tourmaster tires that I put on shortly after purchasing my bike.

They have been excellent tires, good grip wet or dry, and have worn quite evenly.

They still have a little groove left so I will probably get another 1000 miles out of them. I am looking now because I want to replace them before my trip through the Smokies and in to northern Georgia this fall.

I am thinking that I will go with the Shinko's again unless I find something that is more bang for the buck.

These have been really good tires. And the price is great.

Of course I am always open for suggestions, especially from those of you that have 1300's and ride moderately.

If you've found a good tire, tell me about it and I'll consider it.

I went darkside... Car tire on the rear. You do have to use more counter steer. This will start a debate, but I am very happy with it, and have the added benefit of being able to get 30k miles on it.

A little mroe $$ than most Darkside guys spend, but I wanted a runflat tire:

I'm getting about 14k on my 1300r tires . 880 metzeler on front , michelin commander 1 on rear . are you really saving any money if you have to replace the shinkos 2 or 3 times to reach 14k ? I was also getting 14k on the metzeler 880 and 888 rear . eo

How do the Metzeler 880's and 888's do in curves? I primarily ride curvy backroads.

You seem to like the Pirelli MT66 tires a lot. They look like a lot of tire for the price too!

I liked the Shinko Tourmaster 230's a lot because they handled very well with lots of grip.

How are the Pirelli's in that aspect?

Pirelli was the low cost tire before the others arrived.
I have not any issues with them. They balance well. Generally good mileage.
They have all the grip I ever need.
Metzler is owned by Pirelli.

I'm not a real aggressive rider but they do fine ? I'm not against shinko , use them on my small Honda 1972 cl100 and moped , but they don't get many miles put on them like the vtx. eo

I just replaced Dunlop Elite 4 on 1300 C. 19,500 miles and 9,000 miles of that pulling a trailer weighing roughly #350. Front and rear together cost about $310. I mount my own tires and balance with beads, beads cost me $8.30 + $310=$318.30. 318.30/19500=$0.0163230769230769 or 1.6 cents per mile. Front tire probably has another 10,000 left. Do the math

I have a question.

Some tires say they have an aspect ratio of 80 and others say the aspect ratio is 90.

This occurs even though both will say they are 170/80-15.

What is the difference between the 80 and 90?
