2007 vtx1300 dies while riding

I just bought a 2007 vtx 1300 First 100 miles no problem, It now will go dead while riding when I try to start it there's no electric power to the starter or the lights I can wait a while and it will crank and run a few miles and do it again, any ideas welcome

I truly hope you find a cure. I had the same thing. Then it finally started up and then failed a few more times going home. Then it never happened again, but that doesn’t make me feel calm. I’m always worried when is it going to happen again.
Best of wishes.

It's not the speed....it's that sudden stop.

Garage
Does your speedo go to zero, odometer or trip meters fade out, engine miss, than die??

Check battery connections, they get loose from vibrations.

Do you have a digital test meter... Yes--check charging voltage. No--get a DMM (digital multi-meter) or an analog unit.

Charging voltage is 14.0 - 14.5 volts at the battery with engine running, sometimes a few thousand RPMs needed for a good reading.
YUASA revised their charging voltage a few years ago, now 13.8 - 14.5.

I have seen Main 30amp fuse and clips corroded/ melted on a 1300. Main fuse under Red cap on Starter Relay.
Go to Step by Step board, I have some electrical stuff to look at.

I was just about to post something and then I saw this thread.
I was on a 300 mile ride yesterday and twice when I was turning into a parking lot, the bike stalled and trip A and B both reset themselves to Zero.
This morning I took the seat off to check the battery connections. Both the positive and negative screws were a bit loose so I tightened them up good.
Then I went for a 2 hour ride with no issues.
Im betting it was the loose cables.
frnkcat and Earl Riviere like this.
