starter button?

i have a 2006 vtx 1300r the starter button only works some of the time,have to push it multiple times before it turns the starter over,the rest of the time all that happens is my headlight goes dim or shuts off .i got new battery,new starter solenoid,still does it.any suggestions? thanks bob

Head light does shut off when you press the starter button.

Straight from page 58 of a Honda VTX Owners Manual;


Normal Engine Stop
To stop the engine, shift into neutral and
turn the ignition switch OFF. AKA=Use the key
The engine stop switch should normally
remain in the RUN position even when the
engine is OFF.

If your motorcycle is stopped with the
engine stop switch OFF and the ignition
switch ON, the headlight and taillight
will remain on, resulting in battery
discharge

and you never forget to take your key with you this way

I use the "Kickstand Down" to kill the engine most of the time.
I do not recall ever having a dead battery from leaving the IGN switch on.
A look before I leave the X.

2005 1300c Red, Mustang seat, HK 2.5 straights. Leds for safety-front & back. 193,834 VTX miles
