The reason for the breakage is when the procedure sequence when the bike was made on the assembly line. The harness is all connected together and when the are doing the final assembly they just fold the cover over onto the top of the battery and the wire harness from the front of the bike is tight from doing all the forward connections and if they were to just give the harness a slight tug to the rear with the wire that connects to the ECM, yes I have been to the plant and watched the assembly. So look at the wires harness going to the ECM and if the wire looks tight it probslly is. I have mentioned in the past to grab the harness where it connects to the ECM and give it a tug up from under the front of the battery to give it some slack then wrap the harness with some 3M non stick electrical stretch tape to keep all the wires (harness) from vibrating and breaking.
