I am trying to figure out the best 2 day (Saturday and Sunday) or 3 day (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) ride through the hill country in texas with the wife. We live in the dallas area and the wife would like some down time and or non bike activity while on this ride. Any suggestion?

coming from dallas you could look at these locations start with roughly:
austin to fredericksburg, to mountain home, to leakey, medina, kerrville back up to i-10 into san antonio and back up home you could probably do all this in about 4 days or so. these are nice places to go because of the routes taken. Oh don't forget to visit Luckenbach. stay at the d'rose inn.
this place caters specifically to people on two wheels. enjoy

Wife and I did 1200 miles of hill country touring over five days. Down time? Good luck in getting it done in that short a time with down time. We spent a night in Marble Falls, one in Kerrville, one in Borne, and one in Temple. I really liked 337 and 336 (335 is the least improved of the three sisters, more arid too).

I'd suggest getting to Kerrville ASAP then take 16 south to 337. West on 337 to Leaky (there's a great bar-b-que place in a renovated gas station just past the stop sign on the r/h side of the road). Go north on 83 to 336 then east on 41 to 1340. Just past Hunt (Stonehinge) go on 39 east to 27 east and that will get you back to Kerrville.

For me that's the must-do part of the ride. If you have time you might want to check out Waring (neat old gas station / general store) on your way to Lukenbach. Just north of Waring take a left at the fork. Right on 473. Left on 1376 to Luckenbach.

We spent two full days west of Kerville riding a bunch of lesser known, but funnernhell roads along with the required three sisters.

And I'm sure there's another 1200 miles worth of explorin to do down there later this year :-)
