If it's got spokes it's an "S". Even if it started life as an "R", the only difference between them is the wheels. The rest of the bike's DNA is identical.

The PO said it was an R but there's this random S on the VIN tag on the frame. It has a steel spoked rim. So it is an S then?

Harkon Welcome. You will know if you have an "R" or an "S" by whether or not you have alloy wheels or steel with spokes. That's what the "S" stands for. Other than that the "R" and the "S" are identical.
