Sounds like the ground fix is in order. TONS of info about it on the forum. First check your battery. If that's good, search "1800 ground fix" and get comfortable. It isn't a hard fix at all, but a very necessary one.

It isn't a hard fix at all, but a very necessary one.my name is stosh, i have an 08 (sold an '02 last fall), both have identical problems. took the fuel rail apart on the '02 (found nothing), changed spark plugs-no difference. Both bikes have intermittent speedometer problems (no indication of either speed or odometer). now the '08 has ZERO speed (and mileage) indications. the FI light comes on after i ride the bike for about a 1/4 mile (no FI light when the kickstand is down, idling below 5000-in my garage). when the light comes on I can feel a decrease in performance (bike does not stall, act erratic, nothing). I can clear the light be turning the bike off and on (I have gotten quite used to this while in motion)
any help???????
i have had this problem for a while now......................i looked last year (when i still had the '02) and the DIY said to check the 3 grounds. i did 2 out of the three on the '08 bike(maybe its in the third one?!?)Sounds like the ground fix is in order. Maybe. The ground under the tank, next to the front coil, is the electronics ground. It needs to be done every couple years depending on your climate. You have to keep up on it, it isn't a one-and-done thing.i have had this problem for a while now......................i looked last year (when i still had the '02) and the DIY said to check the 3 grounds. i did 2 out of the three on the '08 bike(maybe its in the third one?!?)
Start from square 1: Make sure you have a fully charged battery, then take it to an auto parts house that will do a 100 amp automotive LOAD TEST to determine how good the battery is. Once that is proven, move to the 'ground fix'. And let us know.i have had this problem for a while now......................i looked last year (when i still had the '02) and the DIY said to check the 3 grounds. i did 2 out of the three on the '08 bike(maybe its in the third one?!?)
