seat

This brings up an interesting question, at least to me! When I bought my C model (used), it had an R model seat on it. At least that's what I think it is. The seat comes to a blunted point in the rear and doesn't fit up tight to the tank. The bike also had the passenger pillion from the C because it attached to rear fender bolt, but not to the seat. Therefore, my question is the reverse of the original inquiry; can a stock retro seat fit a C model, or has my bike been altered to accept the retro? :?:

It's hard to say without seeing a picture of it. Could be an aftermarket seat. The fender struts on the R models are at a 90 degree angle(bolt goes in at a right angle to the strut).
The C strut and seat mounts are at a 45 degree angle(bolt goes in on an angle)

Sound more like you have an aftermarket seat

Thanks Spike! You may be right. My seat mounts are definitely C mounts. I'll check when I get home.

The retro seat is at least two inches longer overall than the C model seat.

The fender inner support which supports the seat is also longer on
the retro than the C model.

The chrome fender grabrails are also more than 2 inches longer
on the Retro than the C model.

I mount a C model seat on my bike because it is really a C model
bike that has C model inner fender support and C model grabrails.

I drilled some extra holes in the retro fender so that it would mount
to the C model inner fender support and C model grabrails.

The C model passenger seat does not hug the Retro fender
quite as tightly as a Retro passenger seat would, but you cannot
see light from one side of the bike to the other under the seat.

I finally got around to checking out my seat. It is indeed a stock R seat on my C. The seat brackets have been modified to fit the C fender struts. I'll change back to the C stock seat if I come across a cheap one. Otherwise, I'll just wait until I do my 240 swap and decide which seat to go with at that time.
