Last May a buddy and I aborted our trip to KW after riding along the coast from Texas to Alabama. The reason was because of a tropical storm near Cuba. It was depositing major flooring along the roads we were to be riding with rain for almost two weeks. We'll ride in rain but an entire trip that was supposed to be fun did not include continuous flooding rain. This was one of the few times we made good decisions.

In March my buddy and I (sorry he rides a Harley) will be heading to KW again. We'll avoid interstates as much as we can.

Our first stop is the Iron Butt party in Jacksonville. He is not a member but I am however this is a sniff the flowers ride so no Iron Butt rides to there. We will ride through "Bike Week" so we can say we were there. I may visit my granddaughter in West Palm then two nights on Marathon Key before expensive KW. On the return we'll ride up the Gulf coast and visit an aunt in Nokomis. We'll dart over to Plant City to visit an uncle. Then back to the coast north of Tampa.

Neither of us have been to KW but I have made many trips to several parts of Florida. I know the coast roads are going to be very trying but my buddy has never been to Florida so I will be patient.

I'll report back.

Be aware of lower speed limits to KW, so your ride will be slowed. Marathon is a good less expensive stay than KW. Enjoy the trip!

We made it. Staying off the interstates as much as possible we went to Jacksonville for the annual Iron Butt Party then KW by-passing the crazy people at Daytona.

Some serious traffic problems twice the day we went form Jack to Florida City. No traffic issues from Florida City to KW and back to Marathon. That was a very pleasant ride. Saw one police car.

Key West itself was a PIA. So many people walking and on bicycles going right in front of vehicles without looking. I took the maritime rule: "Big ship has right of way", my motorcycle was bigger than a bicycle to I took the right of way over bicycles. A lot of traffic. Honestly, I was not impressed.

Glad I went as I have been wanting to go almost all my life. I may return with my wife in my Ram 2500 long bed 4 door. That should be an adventure on those narrow streets. LOL
