Hey all,

Over the next few days we will be implementing some changes to our forum password strength and password expiration policies. To make sure you continue having the best experience possible on the community, we regularly monitor the site and the Internet to keep everyone's account information safe. We've recently become aware of a potential risk to some accounts coming from outside of this community. Just to be safe, we are implementing the following changes to improve security even further:

1) We are asking everyone to change their passwords (and will force a one time reset). Along with every user on the forum, new passwords will need to be more complex, and can't be simple words (sorry, you can't have "fluffy" as your password anymore!). Please use a password unique to this community. Reusing passwords can expose your account indirectly when other websites (Twitter, Linkedin, Badoo, etc) are compromised; and

2) Your passwords will expire on a 365 day basis. When you login on the 366th day, you will have to change it.

We'll also be sending out an email to users to let them know about the changes, in upcoming weeks.

Thanks all,
Helena

no big deal. I have a password manager . and been using it for 5 years or more...

but I only protect my bank and credit things.

NO Tweet, Face, instagram,, any of that worthless crap. not on it. and never have been on it.

hacking this account.. will also get you in the sister biker forum.. and that is it.
I have no power, money, intelligence..... so nothing to take.

Just another sign of the times. I just had to implement a more strict password policy at work because of some recent issues. I also belong to thedieselplace forum and they recently implement a complex password policy that also requires a password to be at-least 10 characters long - a bit longer than necessary imo but more secure.

great - just what I need - another password I can never remember! I`m not too concerned about someone hacking my forum account - what are they going to do, pretend to be me and insult a bunch of bikers..... oh no!
Hahaha!!
So right you are, Ollie! I found it quite entertaining that a forum of any size requires a more secure password than several banking sites.

The initial post says that emails will be sent to users. Funny, but I haven't gotten any email about this. I haven't gotten any 'newsletters', either, except maybe once, in all the years I've been here. Is there something you're trying to tell me? Like I've been 'booted' without being told? :surprise: :grin2:

new passwords

I was emailed a new temporary password this afternoon. I have already changed it to a new password. New passwords must contain upper and lower case letters, numerals and a symbol and be at least 10 spaces long. A bit of overkill in my opinion.

Password updated - thanks and no problem here (I've been in IT for over 25 years).

Edit: To people complaining:

I have tried several times to create a new password, but I can't find anywhere to do it. Am I to assume that the password handed to me by the administrator is my only option - use it or don't log in ?
