Private Escorts WWII Vet’s Remains Off Plane, Gets Chills When He Hears Sound Behind Him

In today’s society, it can often seem like people, particularly those in the younger generations, have little respect for others, least of all for those who served our country in the military.

However, one group of young people recently showed that there is still hope, after all, when they learned that their flight was carrying the remains of a soldier who fought in World War II.

As the pilot announced that an Army private would be exiting the plane first, as he was escorting the remains of an American hero to his final resting place, the Iowa Ambassadors of Music Choir broke out into a powerful, impromptu rendition of the “Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

A passenger on the plane, Diane Hollifeld Cupp, caught the scene on video and uploaded it to Facebook, where it has since gone viral.
Ironically, Cupp had been vising World War II battlefields in Germany, and a tour guide had told her that remains of soldiers were still being found from the war.

When the plane from Germany to Atlanta landed, the pilot explained to the passengers that the American hero would be let off first, and the young students in the choir decided to pay him a patriotic tribute.

“It was absolutely beautiful, to see the respect that these kids had, I just had to capture it,” Cobb told WSB-TV. “It was an awesome treat for me and something I will never forget.”

The sight of those young people singing “Glory, glory, Hallelujah,” impressed the passenger, and she knew she had to share the emotional scene with friends on social media.

As of Thursday afternoon, the patriotic video had been shared 1,500 times and viewed more than 230,000 times.

Awesome is right! They showed a bit of the clip on our local TV news this morning, too.

Very cool! Reading the story it reminded me of a scene in the movie Taking Chance with Kevin Bacon.
