That's the cover page of the May 2005 Rider magazine. They do a ride review of the VTX1800F. I haven't read the whole thing yet but so far it looks like a great review.

Ssshh! What are trying to do? If people hear about these things they're going to buy them and then we'll be stuck without discounts next Spring.

motorcycle.com just posted their review on a stage 3 F. To summarize, same low speed handling issues and bulk, worse passenger accomodations, same rev limiter cutting in early comments, but overall a much improved package. They didn't like that the tribal flames weren't painted which made them look cheap.

They went on to warn off new riders because of the bike's heft. The article was much more positive than this sounds, but a lot of it focused on aesthetics and the overall success in matching the right components for this bike.

Also, in a first, it was the only bike to ever lay rubber on their dyno test. I didn't think I saw the video right until they mentioned it in the article.

The F

Well, I like it, the add ons are nice, it is slick, few errors I thought though in the article itself.
3500 RPM at 65. UM, seems high, my tach reads 2000 at 50, and 3000 at 75.
Also stated was 5000 redline, I see around 5700 (I might be a bit high).
Anyway, one other thing was the seat 27.9.
Those aside, someone is finally giving the X a good acknowledgement without killing the pocket book, or wallet.
Hope to see some X's on the road.
PEACE
Merry Prankster

BTW, I love to winter ride :)

From what I've read about the 1800F, it sounds like an eeexellent machine,
and if I were buying now, it would be my choice.

Fortunately most of the improvements on the F can be duplicated on
earlier models by upgrading the suspension.

Hmmm...might be time you considered switching to decalf Good Sir. "The X is more of a bike than any MAN will Ride." Okay...well, I guess that -would- explain the goodly number of WOMEN riding an X of their own. "I am a short, stocky f**k, my pic has been barred, and I am a clown MOFO." How did the words to that Randy Newman song go again...? I Have Met "The King", Riden with him, and RODE HARD With the CO. Boys. Congratulations on your many accomplishments Sir. Ride Safe.  8)

The F is a nicely styled ride. Really what the C should be. Ultimately the VTX needs less overall heft and a bigger mill...say 2000cc's or larger and at least 200 series rear rubber. The radiator needs to be concealed as well...perhaps. Otherwise, an excellent platform to start customizing; whatever model you prefer.
