A tie wrap to hold the fuel tank. That is quick release!

A fuel filter being reused....OK. Seems to be high. Possibly the problem. Was the filter on carb side or on tank side.
Some filters do not work well on gravity flow. Being on the kickstand may have affected the outcome.. It could be vapor lock.

Look at the top right of your picture..
See the wires on the ICM... See the Green and Black wires... They are the ones that break too many times.
Wrap some tape around ICM and the pigtail... It relieves the tension and the movement.

Zip tie was there to hold the fuel filter vertical so itdidn't drip gas on the bike while I was working.
I believe the fuel filter is OEM as it is in a rubber sleeve that has a specific mount that sits it dead center in between the left and right.

Now that the bike is home in my garage I'm a do more invasive work this evening.

New fuel filter, replace the entire fuel line, remove the old pump.

On a side note it might just have been my imagination but I swear the bike was running better on the half hour drive home.

You really think I should run a 16 year old bike without a fuel filter?

2003 1300 parts fiche
The petcock has a strainer on it.
9 SCREEN SET, FUEL STRAINER 16952-MAZ-003

The carb inlet has a strainer in it.
30 SCREEN, FUEL STRAINER 16176-MW3-A80

That is all the 04 and up 1300's have.
No filter, No FP, two strainers only.

If you want a filter, get one for gravity flow and a direct line from petcock to carb..
