hey everybody,

doin summer tune ups and noticed some things. Wanted to ask the all mighty board. I pulled bosch 4418 (02 C) plugs out after 1500 miles just to check and saw cylinder heads completely black. Plugs looked great. Am I just being a worry wort or is there something I need to know for I am not an expert wrench.

Don't You mean, you are looking down at Pistons?
You would need a Bore scope to look up at the head.

correct. I'm looking at the top of the cylinder got any ideas or is this how its supposed to look?

The only clean pistons are in steam engines.

The harder you run it, the cleaner they become.
Lugging it, will coat them more than normal.

Yes, they should be black. It's a Honda, give her hell and hold ON!! :wink:

The 4418's are a colder plug in these bikes, they are bumped to 4419's (hotter) in 03+ bikes. I have a good read on plugs and this bike on my site if you want to check it out for more info.

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but I ran into your buds in Denver, Bear you might want to make the trip next year, my wife and the boys are planning on cooking a meal one night. I will help any way I can, but I know better than to pass between the cook and his rue. To stay on topic some, yes black is normal if you lug your bike at all. I do and it is black.
